I really don't get why they did this...since we've known the actors for nearly 2 weeks now the casting "announcement" seems like the most redundant story possible.

Maybe they are struggling to generate interest? I have noticed a lot more tweeting going on this last week or so, but it seems to be mainly old stuff (announcing cheap titles etc).
Cheers

It was intentional though - they teased not revealing the names. Now it's 2 weeks later and we know pretty much exactly the same as we did when the artwork came out. It's an announcement where we learned nothing

It's an announcement where we learned nothing That's marketing for you. You'd think but since its the antithesis of each and every cast reveal we've ever had...it's a calculated move. To what end is the question? IGood marketing doesn't make its targer market shrug indifferently which is whats happening with The Prisoner casting news revealing to us what we all knew weeks ago.

News releases are (hopefully) picked up by other media outlets, updates on the website, artwork etc are not.

I've no issue with the lead not being "famous". That's of no consequence to me if he's good. It's the concept in general of three quarters of the box being remakes when - from the trailer - this project sounds tonally super-similiar to the original already. Mark even sounds like he's doing his best McGoohan impression. I'm waiting to be pleasantly surprised but with my existing reservations and the set at a price point twice as expensive as the full series on bluray...I'm less confident on this than I am with most BF projects. That said, all four No 2s are excellent casting.
