I must watch TV series 3 properly sometime. I'm a huge fan of TV series one and then I was less keen on TV series two and haven't seen three all the way through.

I'm surprised by this news as I had expected based on previous sets that things would continue to hover around series 1 and 2. I'm very interested in how they'll use Abby in this part of the timeline since we never got a resolution of her story line on the show. Also interesting to see Ruth popping up in the story. Hopefully they will be able to work in more characters that we haven't heard from before.

Hopefully they will be able to work in more characters that we haven't heard from before. Charles Vaughn is the glaring omission. Whilst the rights to the character may not belong to the Nation estate I hope BF make the effort to obtain the rights as Charles was one of the show's 4 main characters and BF won't have fully "done" Survivors until Charles appears Roy Marsden's character the Captain could appear in a story with Greg set between episodes 10 & 11 of the 3rd series and if Greg is going to survive as a character beyonh his (reported) on screen death then that would be the opportunity to show how it happened.

Does anyone know statistically what the chances are of surviving smallpox?

Does anyone know statistically what the chances are of surviving smallpox? According to a quick web search the mortality rate depends on immune system and whether prior inoculation has occurred. It's about 52% fatal with no inoculation and 11% with one. Whether the patient gets medical care or is pregnant can sway those numbers lower or higher.

So it's feasible that Greg could have survived. This opens up all sorts of possibilities for the future of the series.it's now possible for the story to continue for decades after the death. Thanks for the info!

In Ian McCullough's proposed season 4 Greg would have been revealed to have survived.

In Ian McCullough's proposed season 4 Greg would have been revealed to have survived. Oh, that's interesting. I've never heard that before. I wonder if BF will run with some of his ideas. The episodes McCullough wrote are some of my favorites of the whole series. I read about it in an interview McCullough did with TV Zone (issue#5 way back when, IIRC). He first proposed series 4 back in the 70s after season 3, but the BBC rejected it. Memory is hazy but I think his basic idea was the UK being invaded/colonised by Africans whose countries had not been as badly decimated by the Death - a sort of reversal of what Europeans did in Africa in the late 19th century. The BBC rejected it because it was deemed racist, something McCullough felt was not the case. Maybe someone still has access to the original article and can confirm/clarify?
I'm not proposing BF should do this by the way, just reporting on what I recall of an interview I read a long time ago.
He then tried to get a season 4 off the ground in the early 90s but nothing came of it. This was to be set 20 years after the original, so not sure how much of the ideas from his earlier season 4 were in it. Again I read this in TV Zone.

Is it just me or has there been a shortage of details on this so far? We're only a few months from release and we don't even know all the titles yet.

Any chance one of the mods can change the title to say it's Survivors: Series 6?
