watching umbrella (ella ella) academy just over half way through now, I am liking it just not sure I am loving it...… weird timeline and non linear telling is probably the reason and the fact we have talking monkeys, androids and unexplained super powers we just have to go with all a bit strange. hoping things get explained by episode 10 and stops feeling like an adult version of the Incredibles any one else seen it. but have to say liking it way more than stranger things 3, that was a stretch too far for me with massive underground complex that no one even knew was being built by overseas powers. fun but bit of a silly pointless storyline spoilt it for me. oh and a rubbish monster Have you read the comics it is based on? no dude, another episode down, and boy was I right in the Incredibles comparison......lol

So I'm still watching Titans. God knows why. I watch it, I see a scene I hate, I say aloud to no one "I hate this show", and then I continue to watch it. I do exactly that whenever I watch Star Trek: Discovery and the 2019 Twilight Zone. I think it's just because I am a hardcore fan of those franchises, but yeah. Nerds are weird sometimes.

Finished unbrella acadamy, and afraid to say it wasn’t worth finishing.........
Up to about ep 5 it was interesting but paper thin and blindingly obvious story stretched out to much...made me glad to get to the end.
Subplots that get so much screen time are ultimately story deadends, and add very little
And we never find out why or how the blooming monkey talks........
I keep saying it but why when so much money is being spent and has real potential are story and pacing so overlooked........
Others may hold different view but this tale should have been told in 6 hours and might have been an 7 or 8 where as now it gets a 5 from me........bit disappointed

For me I think out of the two seasons there's maybe 2 episodes I've liked. More optimistic about the Picard show, but we shall see.

Dad's Army - The Lost Episodes
I posted when this was announced, it's recreations for the 3 eps of Dad's Army wiped and missing from the archives. It's an odd duck. Half the cast are doing total impressions (especially Kevin Eldon doing his Clive Dunn) but others are doing interpretations, like Timothy West and David Hayman. Since it's this or nothing it's clearly a worthwhile venture - it all looks and sounds EXACTLY like the original show - but there's something that just doesn't quite click. I think taking the style of sitcom and making it now in 2019 just loses something. I actually quite liked the film from a few years ago so I'm not one of those "no-one can play these parts but the originals..." types.
Still, a lovely project that finally means we have a complete Dad's Army on screen. Imagine we had that with Doctor Who!

Columbo: "Lady in Waiting" - First time in the series so far the murderer has been interrupted and had to fly by the seat of her pants. Fun to see something a little different. I guess seven episodes in it's easy to come up with new angles still. Also I'm young enough that seeing Leslie Neilsen not being funny is odd.
Night Gallery: Season 2, Episode 13 - First story was saccharine holiday bullshit, second one was about a thrift shop owner using a magic mirror to get rid of his mean business partner played by Zsa Zssa Gabor. Meh.

Finished off Master of None early last weekend, and then got through season 2 of Mindhunter this week. Yesterday I started up Narcos. And all the while I'm working on my TNG-era Trek rewatch. Currently up to the TNG S7/DS9 S2 year

The new Dark Crystal series on Netflix has just dropped and it's... ohh, it's pretty good. It's got just the right balance of puppetry for "studio" shooting and computer-generated imagery for "location", so to speak. It could be the little digital tweaks to the facial features, but the main characters all look as though I should recognise them. The guard captain's son, for instance, bears a fair resemblance to Michael Praed in Robin of Sherwood. The story is a little exposition-heavy at the beginning in establishing the world, but I'm really excited to see where it goes from here.

Night Gallery: Season 2, Episodes 14-15 - Best of this lot was "The Tune in Dan's Café" wherein an argumentative married couple stop at a roadside diner where the jukebox only ever plays one song. There's a tragic story behind it, naturally. Very slick editing.

As you say, little exposition heavy, but the puppetry and CGI work really well together, and the music is absolutely gorgeous. I can't remember the last time a show evoked such a strong fantasy atmosphere, instead of just having the visual trappings of fantasy.

I love how much it feels like we're walking into lives that have existed for ages since we've turned up. For every bit that's told, there's so much more that's shown and it all feels accessible.

Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. Halfway through, it is great to enter this world once again. This is really immersive stuff.

Finished season 3 of Jessica Jones. I have to say I enjoyed it. Wish there was going to be more. I really like Krysten Ritter. Watched a little bit of The Great British Bake-off and a litte bit of Queer Eye last night. I needed some light entertainment.
