Marathoning The Sandman on Netflix. Episode 6: The Sound of Her Wings, is beautiful. I read all the books/comics a long time ago. Good golly gosh was that perfect casting for Sandman.. Literally stepped off the pages of the comics !
You weren’t kidding about the casting. I’m at episode 11 right now…crazy amazing! 👍🏻⭐️

For All Mankind. I'm up to episode 6 and I do love this show. The feel of the era is so right, and then it's all so different. I do the direction they believe we would go. And the idea that losing the initial moon landing to the Soviets makes the US so much more hungry to move forward with space exploration. Interesting.

Willow The first two episodes. I'm actually enjoying this a lot. The willfully corny approach to the fantasy setting is so refreshing.
The only thing that's off if Warrick Davis. Half the time he's good. The other half he sounds like Dean Learner from Garth Marenghi's Dark Place.
Our Flag Means Death Only the first episode so far. Bit of a slow burner, but I was guffawing pretty hard towards the end.

Happy Valley finale… a mixed bag if I’m being honest. Sarah Lancashire was fab as usual but too many things going on and not enough time to wrap them all up satisfactorily.

Finally finished Andor at the last possible minute before my sub expired, with just enough time to follow it up with a rewatch of Rogue One. I won't comment much on the latter, save to say that in comparison to the former, Rogue One's flaws are much more apparent and it's hard for me to still think of it as a "good movie." The third act still rocks, though.
Anyway, I've gotta talk about some stuff.
One Way Out killed me. Absolutely one of the single best episodes of television I've seen in my life. An incredible, staggering achievement. Just when I thought Andy Serkis had stolen the whole show with his best performance to date... then saunters in Stellan Skarsgard with a performance that's just as powerful, if not moreso. That was one hell of a one-two punch. It's been a few days, and I'm still not over it.
And then we get to the finale with Fiona Shaw's Maarva.
I'm not really sure how to articulate my response to these last few episodes. It was a... chaotic jumble of emotions, and I'm too autistic to ever have had much talent identifying what I'm feeling or why. But I think there was a fair amount of resentment in there. I think... I think I kind of hate Star Wars now.
To explain: like many, Star Wars was a huge part of my childhood. Then I grew up. And I saw that most of it... wasn't very good. Much of it was, in fact, quite bad. And then there are the Disney movies... mostly frivolous, disposable, meaningless. I let my affection for the series go.
But now, here's Andor, all bold and confident, declaring that hey, you know what? Star Wars can be good! It can even, it seems, be great!
And so I resent the series -- not all of it, but much of it -- for failing to be good. For failing even to try to be good -- I'm looking you dead in the eyes right now. Jay-Jay.
And sitting there, watching the end of Andor's first season, my eyes stinging, I knew I'd never likely see a Star Wars story this good again. Right, yeah, "maybe" -- nothings certain, etc., etc. But I'm not going to be even slightly surprised when Andor's second season comes out, and it's got "bigger" stories, with more spectacle, and more links to established characters/events, and all the social media buzz will be about how much better it is than the first season -- but it won't have even half the thematic heft. And within a couple weeks of the finale, it'll be forgotten just as quickly as Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, and the Mandolorian.

Latest episode of The Last of Us. Despite only having a limited knowledge of the game, I’m really enjoying it so far.

Willow Finished Season 1. Warrick got a lot better as the Season progressed. The show maybe dipped into a little overly campy and self-aware at times, but it never lost it's fantasy vibe and on the whole I enjoyed it.

Ooh, been watching a few shows as I usually have three or four on the go at a time and I usually take a couple weeks in between seasons.
Invincible - Solid first season, though the middle of it drags a fair but imo. Looking forward to the next season, which I hope given what seems to be a bigger budget, still keeps the character drama at the core of it.
The Patient - Just finished Episode 7, and it’s a really solid miniseries, and Steve Carell is really compelling. I think it could have been condensed by an episode or two so far though.
Veep - Midway through Season 4, and I enjoy it a lot, but half the time it frustrates me with how long things take to get to the point, but who knows, it could just be an unknowing representation of bureaucracy at its finest.

Currently working my way through Star Trek: The Original Series for the first time, on The Naked Time. Do yourself a favor and skip the very last episode ( Turnabout Intruder). It's a real doozy. Or, conversely, definitely watch it if you want to know why it was probably a good idea the show got cancelled.

Currently working my way through Star Trek: The Original Series for the first time, on The Naked Time. Ah...a first timer to TOS. I envy you that. Be it the original versions or the ones with the enhanced effects you have some absolute classics coming up in the not too distant future. ..Balance of Terror...The Devil in the Dark...The City on the Edge of Forever...Space Seed...The Doomsday Machine to name but a few. However there are some turkeys (lets face it.. a lot can change in sixty years..) Kestrel is right..to a point. Turnabout Intruder is an outdated and unbelievably sexist piece of nonsense, but it isn't the absolute nadir of Classic Trek. That dubious honour is shared by The Way to Eden and Spock's Brain. Opinions on that may vary though!

I'd give the worst crown to The Alternative Factor, personally. Just nothing redeemable in that one...

The only Trek I've seen are the first two Chris Pine films but I thought it was about time I dive into the Trek universe. Going to be working my way from TOS all the way up to the current lot of Trek shows - might take me a while...

Now almost finished Season 4 of Veep, and now I am really understanding why it's such a lauded show. Everything that worked has been dialled up to 11, everything that didn't is gone, and the no one in the cast ever feels truly safe in their jobs, which adds such a fun layer to everything. And how joyous I was to see Hugh Laurie added to the cast!

Ghost Boat (2006)
A bizarre ITC drama from around 2006 which stars David Jason. Reminds me a great deal of a Sapphire and Steel story but if the two Operatives never showed up.

The only Trek I've seen are the first two Chris Pine films but I thought it was about time I dive into the Trek universe. Going to be working my way from TOS all the way up to the current lot of Trek shows - might take me a while... Even better! You haven't asked for my opinion on over fifty years of Trek, but Im gonna give it to you anyway! 🤣 The Animated Series : if you can watch these. The animation is pretty dated and basic by today's standards, but there are some great stories in there. A few not so great stories too.. The Classic Movies : with the exception of Star Trek V (which is one of just a few films I've actually walked out of the cinema for..🤮) these are all worth watching - even the (e)Motion(less) Picture, which was epic in scale but lacking the heart that summed up TOS. It is a classic example though of how to really **** up a film production and enhances what Nick Meyer got sooo right just a couple of years later on a much smaller budget.. TNG, DS9 and Voyager : made at a time when it felt we were finally getting our act as a species right these were made with a such hopeful outlook to the future - even when DS9 went to war, hope was still peaking through the curtains. TNG was basically modern TOS but lacked consequences, DS9 was more grown up Trek with consequences and Voyager...gave us Seven of Nine (🤷♂️). Chock a block with some truly memorable characters, ironically all three shows really didn't really find their feet until their third seasons - TOS fell over on it's third. But as with TOS and TAS there are some gems among the twenty one seasons of all three shows ( The Best of Both Worlds, The Inner Light, The Visitor, Far Beyond The Stars) and yes...there are some duds. The Next Generation Movies : Generations is okay...ish if you can ignore the slim plot and the lazy way that they took out the Enterprise. First Contact is pure popcorn entertainment. Insurrection is also okay if you can ignore parts of the plot - especially when Riker engages manual control on the Enterprise. Frankly when I saw that I was cringing with embarrassment because of the sheer stupidity of it all ...as for Nemesis? Lets just say it isn't a great movie. It isn't even a good movie. It's not even a decidedly average movie. Need I say more? Enterprise : Could have been great if handled right. Unfortunately made when internal divisions at Paramount and CBS were rife and the optimism of the nineties faded after the horror of 9/11. Found its way in the Fourth season but by then it was way too late. Discovery : I can't really gel with this one, mainly because as an old time Trek viewer the first season went out if its way to alienate me. But it is approaching its fifth season now and from what I hear has found both its own path and a new generation of fans and that is how it should be. I look forward to hearing what you think about it when you eventually get there. Picard : Unfortunately I have to say the same about this one too. There was a huge amount of potential in the idea of teaming a now elderly Picard with a new crew, but an obsession with grim and gritty and some really shoddy writing soured this so much for me. But again, I look forward to hearing what you think once you've viewed it. Lower Decks : I initially hated this, but.. it has grown on me. There is a lot of love for Trek in its mix and it is told with its tongue very firmly jammed in its cheek. Strange New Worlds : Curiosity got the better of me and I took advantage of a free week on Paramount plus last year to watch the whole thing. Now this to me is classic Star Trek. I loved it! Does need a few tweaks here and there mind you for season two, but all told it is well worth a watch. Prodigy : Haven't seen it, so I'll spare you an opinion on it until such time that I do... Well, you have a long road getting from there to here (you'll figure that one out..) but it is a lot of fun. I envy you the whole experience. Enjoy it!
