So after really enjoying Poker Face a couple of months ago, I've started watching it's spiritual predecessor, Columbo. The first few episodes are just about the most 1960s thing I've ever seen this side of an Austin Powers movie. And the first episode proper? Got a bit of a shock at the end to see it was directed by Stephen Spielberg. Huh.
Overall I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected. Columbo himself is a really fun character (I have to assume everything he says about his personal life is a lie) and the inherent tension that comes from making the protagonist of the story the criminal, and the Detective who will inevitably catch them the antagonist? Hard to frame that as anything short of genius.
Also, I may be misremembering the specifics, but there's this one really fun scene where Columbo (very briefly) encounters a Japanese woman, who talks to him for a bit before leaving. The joke of the scene, if you only know English, is that Columbo doesn't understand a word of it. The joke of the scene if you do understand the scene is much funnier -- she's breaking the fourth wall! Well, almost. She's basically saying she thinks Columbo is fantastic (IIRC the word used was one that often implies a degree of romantic attraction) and would very much like him to call her later. I guess she slipped him her phone number, too? Looking it up a bit online, it seems like Columbo wound up being unusually popular over in Japan, too, which is... pretty interesting. Well, too me at least.

"Young Sheldon" S07E11. Sheldon is 14 and he decided to rewrite the whole Physics syllabus for East Texas College... and big surprise its perfect, exactly what the College needs to move forward with genius students.. He is now teaching his 2 mentors - they have conceded that he is very much so smarter then they are. Season 1 dialogue "Well was Sheldon correct?".. "Ok course he was! He always is!" Episode 12.. we haven't watched yet- if you know the sad story of what happened to Sheldon's family when he was 14... It's going to be br00tal for wife to watch, that was her.. When she was 11. I am setting it up for her to watch it by herself, I will take Junior out for a bit.
EDIT: Well I just watched it... I want to wake my son up and just hug him.
