So, in Absent Friends, have we ever conjectured about who's on the phone when the Doctor picks up, at the end? Well, if it's always someone who is definitely dead, could be Lucie or Alex. I don't recall him taking calls in the original series which (mostly) predated cellphones and I'm not sure I ever recall Adric encountering an Earth-style phone, but who knows.
Could be Tamsin but they weren't all that close. If not definitely dead, perhaps his first wife/ladyfriend. I'd have said Susan, except BF took care of the problem of his never so much as visiting.

I'm not entirely sure I do know! If the Doctor wants to tell me, he can, but he hasn't yet. There are people I think it's unlikely to be (some of whom have been speculated here), but I really wouldn't want to name them, as I don't see why my thoughts should outrank anyone else's! Pretty much as Davy said above, my preference is that it's who you want it to be.

For effect, for emotion!
Basically, you wanted us to weep And we did.

Finished it and WOW! That was amazing! There were some real real shocking, "did that just happen? moments for me, and each story was as good as the next. I was really upset that work got in the way of my listening. The only disappointment was one that I should have expected. I've been looking forward to Eight meeting The Monk ever since To The Death. That story still leaves a lump in my throat and I got emotional as soon as the Monk and The Doctor came face to face. Now, I completely understand why they didn't side track the flow of the story with the emotional baggage that comes with that meeting, but in my heart I wanted more. I'm not sure what, to be honest, but something more. For Lucie, and Alex, and Tamsin. Even if those names weren't mentioned, I felt like he could have been meeting any Timelord that he didn't happen to like. Until, well, the end of that story. But in the end it was all so subdued. But the set, as a whole, was outstanding. And I also loved the callback to the Red Lady. Just a masterful set of stories. This, though the cliffhanger ending left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth...it kinda feels like we will be getting Doom Coalition 4.5 next rather than a run of new stories, and as good an actress as Hattie Morahan is, I'm not 100% sure of her character or motivations yet, she was very much the third wheel in the partership and has limited time to develop on her own, it's obviously too early to judge but part of me thinks the ending would be more effective if it were 8 and Helen going after Liv...
Eh, I disagree. Doctor Who is ongoing - and the ending reflected that.

Why can't women have deep, meaningful relationships with other women and NOT be lesbians anymore? I wasn't saying I want Helen to specifically be outed as a Lesbian (and as I said in my earlier post I may simply be reading into things that aren't actual there), but I did get the impression she's a little unsure of her own personality and self when she joins the tardis crew, and somewhat ostracized from her work colleagues, her journeys with the Doctor and Liv bring her out of her shell a little and as the 11 implies she's the third wheel in the partnership I think Helen coming to terms with a sexual orientation that was illegal in her own era would mirror her development in character and allow her to come to terms with herself and her new life in the far future, it can't be a bad thing to get more LGBT representation in the franchise.

I couldn't help but wish that some of the Gallifrey series gang had appeared here. Just imagine Romana and Narvin vs Padrac and his machinations. Being DC so Gallifrey centric it's a pity that some beloved characters from the series didn't appear here! Kinda wish they have found a way to write K9 into the series, imagine his robot logic arguing with the 11's mad ravings...

So finally finished DC4. I feel like I need to listen to the who series from the start,I feel like I may have missed something.
Gallifrey politics is still a little boring and Angels don't work on Audio.
I think I listened to the first Dorney story I didn't like. The opening episode left me cold, I feel like they missed an opportunity of having the 3 of them live for a while in the lifeboat.
Songs of Love was quite good River running around was fun and the collection of Villains for this set is excellent.
I just don't think this set had an outstanding story like all the others had, I have to say I much prefered DC3.

I've finally got round to listening to the Doom Coalition saga over the past week or so and it's been brilliant. I think every episode has either been top drawer Doctor Who, jolly good fun or both.
I think it managed to perfectly find the balance between telling one big epic whilst throwing in a couple of one or two part fairly standalone stories into the mix that are lighter on the overall arc.
And how brilliant to have River Song join the series. I love the character to bits and was a little unsure of her inclusion in 2.4, as it felt she'd been shoehorned in at the last minute, but it all became clear in the third set. Songs of Love was a fantastic way to showcase River off in a way we've not completely seen from her before. How wonderfully tragic to place these Doom Coalition adventures for her between The Husbands of River Song and Silence in the Library. She sends a message to the Doctor, only for one she's not allowed to meet to respond. She knows her story is ending.
Great stuff all in all. What a brilliant TARDIS team the Doctor, Liv and Helen are. I wish they could throw River into the mix again for another set but it seems unlikely!

I remember the original run of three with its cliffhanging ending...the tv show was running and I was more interested in this series and had to wait 6 months not only for the concluding stories but a resolution to the cliff hanger and A ShIp In A Bottle continues it in rip roaring action with just our Tardis crew. yes I know how it all ends but it’s always a great revisit.
