Its Klein's backstory from her point of view hearing it 1st might rob some tension from Colditz .

I guess it's not necessary, but very highly recommended. Yes, very highly. International Space Station highly. That's how high.

I'd definitely recommend listening to Colditz before Klein's Story, the latter has a framing device that takes place after A Thousand Tiny Wings.

Colditz is worth listening to for a lot of reasons, not least of which is trying to suss out what part of Germany David Tennant thinks he's from.
Another reason is that it's just a good story and sets up the Klein Trilogy (and yeah, it's probably required to understand said trilogy).

Does the trilogy come before or after Klein's story? Could I just get away with listening to colditz and Klien's story?

Does the trilogy come before or after Klein's story? Could I just get away with listening to colditz and Klien's story? Why would you want to? The first Klein trilogy are BF classics, and has some beautiful story telling. Bite the bullet (when you can) and listen to all of it. You won't be disappointed.

I am not the biggest fan of Colditz, but for Klein - and her story - it's best to start at the beginning, so I'd definitely recommend starting with Colditz, before listening to the other Klein stories. (Which are all top notch by the way.)

McShane is very annoying! Ace gets some really bad dialogue in places too, and some lines were hard to hear because of sound fx over dialogue... so Colditz was not a great Doctor Who story for me. Although it is important for Klein and her backstory, so it's recommended listening for that reason.

(Which are all top notch by the way.) I can understand that. If it weren't for Klein and David Tennant, I don't think the story would be particularly memorable.

I love Colditz and I'd recommend listening to it while knowing as little about Klein as possible.

Radio 4Extra broadcast the Klein trilogy, but not "Colditz" They broadcast Protect & Survive without any of the previous Hex stuff too. Although Big Finish are so good at what they do I'm sure it works for new listeners to hear characters in a story without knowing their origins and back story. I suppose we are just so close to things here we think it's better knowing 'everything', but not knowing might be just as enjoyable too?

Yeah, needing to know everything can be kind of time consuming. The reason that I originally listened to Colditz was that I knew that the Master was in UNIT: Dominion, and there was no way I was going to listen to that without knowing who Klein and Raine were. Before I listened to Dominion I listened to Colditz, the Klein Trilogy, and all of the Lost Stories with Raine.
