Good start to the story and intrigued for the rest! Liked the cliffhanger, an open ended one instead of Doctor and/or companion in danger.

*Prepares to duck for cover*
I didn't like it. I'm not sure why exactly but it isn't holding my interest at all, and the acting seems ... off! I'll have to listen to it again sometime, in case I'm just not in the mood for it. Sorry guys, I wanted to like it but ...
*Ducks for cover*
Cheers

It's your opinion and it really has no bearing on any opinion I'm going to form for myself. Anyway, you are the third person I come across today saying they were sorry for not liking something. Carry on with your regularly scheduled day.

It's like having someone bump into you, but you apologise to them. Something Brits are very good at. I really wanted to like it and generally like Andrew Smith's stuff, I just thought this was meh and now i feel bad for it. It has nothing to do with other people's opinions . Cheers Tony

The last couple of minutes were really heartfelt. There's one scene at the end that we don't hear involving Kala and her daughter but imagining what must have happened makes it so very tragic. And it's touching how much I really felt the Fifth Doctor's relief to be reunited with Tegan and Nyssa at the end. I particularly liked the performances overall. I also now have a new favorite quote - "Well done Adric, you've killed us."

There's a lot of unneccessary negativity from fans on some forums (not this one, mainly) and I think others try to distance themselves from that. Hope I am not putting words into acousticwolf's mouth!

I didn't like it. I'm not sure why exactly but it isn't holding my interest at all, and the acting seems ... off! I'll have to listen to it again sometime, in case I'm just not in the mood for it. Sorry guys, I wanted to like it but ... *Ducks for cover* Happens to me often enough that something doesn't click just because I'm not in the right frame of mind. Most usually it's been while trying to hear one more story way past my bedtime and then I wake up the next day thinking, "What an awful story that must be if I fell asleep in the middle of it like that". :-) It can also happen before coffee - I couldn't wait to hear A Full Life very first thing in the morning and then shot out the gate nitpicking it for no good reason. It's actually one of my absolute favorite BF releases of 2016. It usually is the case when that sort of thing happens, that a second listen (or sometimes a little reflection) will give me an entirely different perspective. Anyway, I totally enjoyed The Star Men. Solid and interesting story with some wonderful touches, and I though all of the cast did a fantastic job. Wonderful introduction to the Main Range for Adric, at long last.

I found The Star Men to be an okay story, it's nothing special I suppose, especially when compared to it's main range predecessors from November/December or the same Tardis team's Fifth Doctor box set adventures, The Star Men still had it's moments though. I thought the story was a bit complicated in places but it did have some nice twists; just when I thought I had lost my way, it all came together again. All of the performances were good and I even found Adric entertaining. (!) Adric finding a bit of romantic attention was an interestng side-step from the main action too.
Overall, not a bad way to start to 2017, and a good return for this Tardis team... I'd probably give this a 7/10 based on my first listen.

I'm halfway through this and, after a ponderous start, I've been swept along with events and am thoroughly enjoying it all. Adric and Matthew Waterhouse seem to have agreed on a far more agreeable, naturalistic voice and the character is far more convincing as a result. The banter between Tegan and the Doctor is still a highlight - she has improved as a character so much under Big Finish, and I find much of what she says - and the way Janet delviers the lines - genuinely funny. It is good to hear Peter Guinness in a Big Finish production once again; how was his voice once described? Dripping velvet, something like that? Andrew Smith is always a writer who interests me. Rarely spectacular or world-changing, his stories are instead thoughtful and well-paced slow burners. I like that style very much. I'm looking forward to hearing the second half!

Well maybe I just wasn't in the mood for the 1st two parts because I did end up enjoying the second half. I thought the Star Men were compelling villains, I liked how Adric's mathematics came into play and there were some nice dramatic scenes. Of course you knew from the start which character would die any romance with a companion is a death trap but in the end I did end up enjoying this story. I love Janet Fielding she's hilarious. I can't help but love Tegan because of Janet. What a character she is. I loved how she was arguing with Peter on the extras about him wanting her to leave.

Was my prediction of it being somehow Bowie-related correct? Not at all I'm afraid
