I also really liked this one. No, it wasn't earth-shattering (pardon the pun), but it was a very well-done story with great dialogue and interesting villains. I thought it really felt "of it's era." I could see the cheap effects and rubber lizard suit in my head. I also think Adric's voice was much easier to listen to than in the 5th Doctor Boxset. I loved his comments in the extras that after spending so much time refusing to do BF that he can't wait to get a script and do another one. That seems to be what every hold-out says when they finally join BF. All in all, a very enjoyable couple of hours.

If nothing else, I'm always impressed when I can hear a story where I don't find myself praying that Tegan will die horribly.
So, well done, Andrew Smith.

I liked it a lot. One niggle though, the dialogue along the lines of 'He's dangerous' and the Doctor replies 'So am I' jarred slightly - 'dangerous' is not a word I'd use to describe the 5th Doctor (my favourite incarnation), although on reflection I suppose he is!

Was my prediction of it being somehow Bowie-related correct Not that I was able to detect but at least we still have your Thin White Doc avatar. :-)

Davison, of course was Dangerous....well, Dangerous Davies in The Last Detective.

Was my prediction of it being somehow Bowie-related correct? Not at all I'm afraid Well... apart from the fact that The Star Men was released on the anniversary of David Bowie's death! (January 10th 2016)

Well, I was in pieces after that! What an emtional story that turned out to be, brilliantly acted by all concerned. I loved the Radiophonic-style music as well. A terrific release.

There was a lot in The Star Men that I liked but didn't feel like it all came together. That it was maybe one draft away from really clicking.

I liked this one, but I think it's a polish away from being very good indeed. It didn't feel particularly like it was from season 19.
I couldn't stop picturing Sue Holderness as Marlene though, complete in leopard print uniform! Was the character and casting a nod to Beryl Reid in Earthshock, I wonder?

Ok.....1st main range release of 2017.......not the best of starts but not bad.
1st episode was great, Adric fitted well, pairing off worked well but once the disaster averted & the crash happened, down hill it went.
It was like ok onto this other story now, reminded me of the 3 and 1 stories when nick took over.
The rifts, aliens & locations all seemed a bit nondescript, so found it hard to follow who was where & what was happening and cared even less by the end of it.
Not bad just a bit lacklustre, for 70% of it running time.

I like the Starmen, they have good potential for further development. I hope we'll be hearing from them again. I also like that Adric's first main range story gives him several good moments to shine.

I liked this one, but it shares a common problem with Who People from another universe who seem to be able to transport its laws of physics and dimensional configuration to ours. That's not how laws of physics or dimensions work.
If you start in a universe with length, width, height, and time......and you go to another universe (somehow) with length, blargth, reverse-time, and side-ways time, something not entirely pleasant can be expected to happen to you.

Just out of curiosity, are these stories part of the earlier gap between Cold Fusion and Four to Doomsday or in that later one between Black Orchid and Earthshock? I'm wondering what kind of story to expect, whether it's more Sawardian or closer to Bidmead's run.

She does moan that the Doctor was trying to get her to Heathrow, but Id put it after Visitation, because the Doctor is teaching Adric to fly the Ship, which would the logical reaction to what Adric did there.

Tegan is also more open to exploring than she would be early in season 19. She's even volunteering to go with the Doctor when he investigates what's happened to the ship.

Which is also why I put it after "Visitation", Tegan had seemed to stop being so Heathrow orientated after that story.
