Jonathan Morris knows how to do a good timey-wimey (damn Moffat for that phrase and how useful it results) story doesn't he? WHY on Earth hasn't this man written a TV story yet?? in the Moffat(the king of timey-wimey) era?? From Festival of Death to now, wonderful stories that play time travel in a intelligent manner, stories that have you scratching your head and going for a second listen One of my very fav writers My best guess is that he's not used to writing for TV, which is a very different medium than novels or audio drama.

I've only listened to Vortex Ice so far and while I think I understand the timelines, if someone has the time to make a diagram or detail it, that would be appreciated.
I was thinking just now that The Doctor and Flip really didn't accomplish anything in the story, but I guess they did keep the cyborg from getting to the surface? (Trapping it in vortex ice a second time and collapsing the mine.) Otherwise the story would have played out the same way without them (which I find annoying unless it is a purely historical story).

Vortex Ice made for a fun mind-bender. Flip's characterization was really wonderful in this story and I hope we get to see more of her in the future. Cortex Fire on the other hand...I hate to knock a story, but I've tried 3 times to get into it and can't make it past the 10 minute mark. The whole thing feels a bit dull and I'm not drawn into the story. Is it worth pressing on when I have 100+ hours of other Big Finish material to get to?

It's good if you can get into it but nothing special. You might find it better on a second listen down the road. Move on to the next!

I loved Vortex Ice. I'm always a sucker for when writers remember time-travel can be used IN the adventure rather than just to take The Doctor and co TO the adventure. Flip was her always wonderful self and her rapport with Colin is just terrific. I was melacholy by the end when she realised she had to let everyone die and then....and THEN....we got the "I know! I'll take you to..." *THEME* ending from Trial. I burst out laughing on a crowded bus!

Just listening to this one now. Will have more thoughts after I finish Cortex Fire but I'd just passed this line -
"Are you good at sweet talking aliens?" / "Must be. I travel with you, don't I?"
- and felt the need to post that I really enjoy Flip and I'm glad she's back.

I listened to this release yesterday and I loved both stories. Enjoyed the way Flip was used and the way her initiative showed in both these stories. Of the two, I liked Vortex Ice more and smiled at the closing line from Colin Baker...
