World Enough and Time by James Goss
This was great fun. In regards to Six's unnatural behaviour, I thought that it worked as an effect of his brainwashing if you can call it that(don't know quite the best word is). Overall I thought that 6 and River were a match made in heaven. 9/10.

Well... I think I'm in the minority of not being overly impressed by this set as a whole AT ALL. The Unknown was was alright. I wouldn't call it more than average. The River/Doctor relationship in the box set in general was a bit weird (being far too open with her identity than she was with Eight, even though he couldn't even see her), but this story was particularly weird. Seven and River just don't mix as a couple, and the way she seems to suggest she has the same feelings for him as she would, say, Ten or Eleven, is just a bit unbelievable. Five Twenty-Nine... well, there is actually nothing bad I can say about this one. All I can ask is that dorney might stop making me cry World Enough and Time was, in my opinion, awful. Six's characterisation was laughable - you could have had Colin Baker playing a different character for all the similarities to the Doctor that were present. As someone else here mention, River feeling that the Doctor was mixed up in it all felt very forced and unbelievable. And something I've not seen anyone else mention - I could swear there was a moment there where Sixie used a sonic screwdriver... He never had one, did he, as it was destroyed in The Visitation and not replaced until The Movie? The Eye of the Storm was a bit better better than The Unknown, but I still wouldn't call it much more than average. Sixie's characterisation was better, but I still don't understand why he would be so intrigued/smitten by River? It just seems ridiculously out of character. And regarding the post-credit scene - I didn't realise that I needed it until I got it. Personally, if a story NEEDS a post-credit scene to actually FINISH THE STORY, then something was done wrong during the rest of the story. A bonus scene shouldn't be necessary to finish the story - it should be contained between the credits (sans cold open). So, overall, I was a bit disappointed by Series 2. I thought Series 1 was great, but this one was definitely a step in the wrong direction (somehow). As for Classic Doctor involvement, I don't have an issue, so long as the characters are actually written properly! If this set is anything to go by, they'll need to look more carefully at this after World Enough and Time... (Sorry for sounding so negative, I was just really disappointed by this release ) I both agree and disagree with your views on this. While on the whole I liked this volume much more than the first one, I completely agree with you about Six's characterization. He was completely out of character here. I thought that was the worst thing in the set. I actually loved her interactions with Seven, and the first story didn't bother me because they were both having memory problems. And I thought Alex Kingston's performance in this was her best for BF so far, she really carried the set. Six as some kind of bumbling ignoramus seriously annoyed me to. But that was it.
I quite enjoyed the rest. Quite a bit, enough that I'll buy the next one.

The Eye of the Storm by Matt Fitton
This was really quite good, a nice fitting conclusion and a great banter between 7, 6 and River. 9/10.

The Diary of River Song Series 2 by Big Finish
All in all this Box Set was really quite good. All the stories were solid 9/10's and really all flowed together nicely. So it gets an overall score of 9/10.

Just finished World Enough and Time. Definitely the weakest of the three so far.mSixie was out of character but they had been playing with is mind. One of the worst thing for me was when River decided to think out loud/talk to herself/massive info dump. If a character has to do that to that extreme then somethings gone wrong somewhere. Not an awful story but a step down from pts 1&2

I have ordered both volumes of River Song, my curiosity couldn't hold out any longer, hopefully I'll enjoy them. I was pretty indifferent to River on TV (admittedly, I skipped most of the Smith era so I haven't seen her full story) but I throughly enjoyed the first boxset, and I'm planning to get the second soon.

Three stories in and loving it so far. I like the more toned-down River in these

There's something about The Doctor working undercover that always gets me so Work Enough And Time intrigued me, and I really wasn't disappointed. I always love Six when he's almost lazily going about his affairs, more worried about where the next custard cream is coming from than saving the universe and this story had that side of him in abundance. Actually laughed out loud at parts like him falling asleep trying to clear his emails. Oddly though...it felt like Who story with River in it rather than the other way about which surely isn't the point of the boxset? It's River's diaries...so most of it to be from the Doc's POV is a bit strange.

Just finished the story part on the way home tonight (still in the music suite). I thoroughly enjoyed the set. I didn't quite get what she did to 7 at the end. Did she just bop him on the head or something?
I did think it was a bit strange that 7 ended up with the crew of the ship and not River, though she must have gotten Rachel to the ship or had them retrieve her before she went back in time. Just a gap for us to fill in ourselves.
I'm looking forward to another set with her meeting more Doctors.

Alex definitely seemed more comfortable with the format than she did in the first series. This was a fantastic way to start my day - with the extras this took up just over half of my drive home and it was fantastic. Kept me wide awake and wholly absorbed from 5 am on. Really hope there is a series three. Her daughter did a pretty good job too. Yup. Both Alex and her daughter were quite good. I'm in the middle of listening through these for the second time. I have to say I thought they were good stories overall.

Listened to it again, I think that it was the stonger set of the two.

Thoroughly enjoyed the second set (though I still prefer the first, this set was a little too Doctor orientated for my liking and I found some of the plot points a tad confusing), I was very surprised when the behind the scenes interviews pointed out it was recorded December 2015!
So, assuming BF are working far in advance of release they may have a 3rd (maybe a 4th as well...) set recorded already...

I actually loved her interactions with Seven, and the first story didn't bother me because they were both having memory problems. And I thought Alex Kingston's performance in this was her best for BF so far, she really carried the set. Reading Vortex I was baffled to learn they deliberately wrote against Six's normal character. I can't understand why they'd think that was a good idea. Going off topic here, but having not seen any of the 6th Doctor TV serials (though I've heard 20ish of his BF stories) I've heard it argued the same can apply to the 6th Doctor at BF in general-apparently there is precious little of the (apparently) arrogant, blustery figure of the TV stories in the audios I've mostly heard the Lost Stories and early Evelyn stories-which are supposedly early in his life and I'm tempted to agree, but I don't know how true this is for later stories. His audio persona essentially being a page one rewrite to a more cuddly moral figure, as I understand it Colin Baker wanted to gradually mellow his Doctor overtime (much like Capaldi has) but never got the chance, but rather than soften the Doctor overtime in the audios it seems to me that he was so hurt by the reception of the 6th Doctor on TV that he requested BF to essentially reboot his character skipping to largely after Post trial with new eras for BF to explore away from TV character and arcs. I'm not necessarily saying it's a bad thing (and having seen only a few clips of his TV stories perhaps it's not my place to judge fairly) as Colin is great in the stories I've heard and perhaps the 6th Doctor as seen on TV deserved to be rewritten, but it seems BF already have previous experience in writing out of character.

Hello again
River Song is one of my favourite characters created in NuWho. This is mainly due to Alex Kingston's acting ability. On tv she was hilarious and worked really well with Matt Smith. Those scenes when she reveals her identity is one of the best moments in series 6. Having said that I loved her story with Peter Capaldi, she would have been a great companion for Capaldi's Doctor.
Series 2 is the only one I have listened to. I love the theme tune. It is interesting having River meeting Doctor's 6 and 7. The interactions between the two are reminiscent of the friction between the Troughton/Pertwee Doctors.
I enjoyed all the stories, though did find it all a bit confusing at times. The creepy dimension squids were horrid. The second story was so heart-breaking and River was really up against it. The Sixth Doctor as Chief Executive did make me smile and the last story brought everything together well. An enjoyable set of stories.

Gosh, The Unknown was quite a scary monster... and leading into 5:29 albeit with a bit of Time jiggery-pokery. Only just started this one, I'll keep posting as I get time to go through them.
