I've just finished listening to the story and really rather enjoyed it. I thought the recasting of Ben was excellently done but for the first time I didn't think that Fraser Hines sounded particularly like Patrick Troughton. I'm usually really convinced by him – but not this time. Is it just me or do others agree? I'm curious…

I thought the exact same thing about Fraser when listening to this. Sounded much more rushed than normal, which was disappointing. Still enjoyed the story, though.

Someone (on the old forum, I believe) had a good point that we're not used to hearing Fraser have so many lines as the Second Doctor and he's not as used to doing so much.
I didn't really hear much of a difference myself. I thought all four members of the TARDIS crew were well portrayed even if only Jamie is close to identical to the way he sounded in 1966.
As for the story, it was probably my favourite Early Adventure so far. It split the crew effectively and gave all four something to do (although Ben was a bit more sidelined for reasons detailed in the BTS tracks) across two storylines that nicely combined in Episode 4. Gave me lots of hope for Autumn 2015.

I also thought Fraser wasn't as convincing as Two this time. Not that I'm complaining. I really enjoyed it.

Frazer was still pretty damn convincing. I liked the new Ben, and a peaceful robot revolution is an interesting idea. Maybe they can do a prequel in the next First Doctor season.

Can I ask how the narration was handled in this story?
Two reasons why I'm interested. Firstly, for some reason I can't start new threads. Secondly, I see that David Warner is credited as narrator for the forthcoming "The Black Hole", not Fraser Hines.

No clue yet as to why David Warner and not Fraser Hines narrates "The Black Hole".

My Guess is Fraser was ill/had a sore throat/ etc.. and that's why his delivery was off in Yes Men. He's back to his very convincing self in Forsaken.

I wondered about David Warner narrating as well. Maybe it takes the load of Fraser or maybe he's a secret character?

Surely they'd give David Warner more than a few lines of narration. Although any David Warner is appreciated!

It's on record that Elliot was brought on board to play Ben to ease Frazer's narration duties. I hope Elliot is going to play Ben in the next set of Second Doctor Companion Chronicles.

What if the Black Hole sets up for the arrangement we see in the Two Doctors. It involves the Timelords, and it's in the right era.

Then there are reconstructions using the thankfully surviving audio for the missing episodes.

Some episodes are missing, but those episodes have been animated. Otherwise, you'll have to use reconstructions, soundtracks, or novelizations if you want to experience this team's original stories.

I'm slowly working my way through a backlog of Big Finish stories, and am enjoying this greatly. I'm interested that people have said Fraser's 2nd Doctor was 'off'. I thought it was fairly consistently good. His was never a straight impression of Troughton, but a convincing set of his mannerisms and inflection - it's always given the flavour of the Second Doctor rather than going for complete accuracy. And I'm happy with that, in the same way I'm happy with other actors playing Doctors 1 and 3. The story is great fun, beautifully sound designed and nicely performed. The second series of the Early Adventures is off to a flying start!
