It could be a long 2 year wait for more. My thoughts exactly. Elliot Chapman was marvellous as Ben and the team fit together so well... So now we have to wait for September 2017 to hear them again? Too bad really.

While I really enjoyed this tale, did anyone else feel a bit suprised at the lack of focus on Ben meeting his Father? An intresting take on the typical time traveling trope (and one I suspect the range might come back to), but it didn't quite work for me.
But, still, what a first-rate tale. Very true to the era and nicely unnerving in places and Eillot Chapman nicely embodies Michael Craze's performance while still making the character his own. Enough, surely, to put those fears about next year's recasting to the bed, surely?

I absolutely agree - two years is a huge wait. They were all three great in both stories.
Looking forward to the Debbie Watling one, mind.

Next year Barbara is played by the actress who played Jackie Hill in An Adventure In Space And Time.

The Black Hole looks to be a very different story, the mere presence of the Time Lords assures that. There's also the final line of the synopsis, about using the Doctor's compassion to form a trap...

Finished this today this and the Yes Men were definitely my favorite of the Early Adventures. I love this Tardis Team and it will definitely be a very long 2 years.
I wonder if we will get Ben & Polly CC's.
As for the story itself I enjoyed the idea of a monster who feeds on fear. I liked the idea of it taking any shape too. The only thing I didn't like was his grim reaper voice was way too generic.
Other than that I loved the music used in this. It really gave me sense that they were in the Singapore Jungle and added a nice ambiance to the tale.

Though, of course, we might not hear Jamie, Ben and Pol all in the same one.

I think she'll do marvellously in the audios.

Just finished this and thoroughly enjoyed it! The ending is a little conveniently wrapped up, I think, especially after such an intriguing build-up, but this is a minor quibble really as everything else is so good. Justin Richards writes good solid stories with great characterisation, and this is no exception. All the regulars are well served, and the guest cast are fine too (I thought Gabrielle Glaister's character was played by Beth Chalmers for a while!).
I agree that more could have been made about Ben's relationship with 'Jacko', but I liked the restraint shown with this. Elliot Chapman is excellent as Ben - I have always been against recasting, but with Chapman and elsewhere Tim Treloar as The Third Doctor, my mind is slowly changing (Fraser's Second Doctor I have no problem with - he never claimed to be an impressionist, and whilst you could hear Fraser coming through occasionally, Pat Troughton was represented well enough). The sound design - especially that for the monster - is excellent, and the music is beautiful. Really atmospheric.
Great fun, very enjoyable.

Good story, liked the part about Ben meeting his father at Ben's own age. You know Ben's father has to survive, but I still worried a bit.

These stories in the range are definitely high on my relisten playlists this story defintely fits with the era and Ben Polly and Jamie are an entertaining team leading to the playful Ben who teases Jamie by the time we get to the Mouthless dead.

These Second doctor tales are always a relisten for me Ben,Polly,Jamie are all served so well and this story is definitely Bens story and the narration doesn’t intrude or distract. I dont really think there was a bad story in the run of the releases i found it gave the Main Range a fair run for its money and served those with a fondness for the older teams a great listening experience. This story focusing on Bens father works great and an interesting foe.The supporting cast all add to the atmospherics and the setting is something not commonly used which was refreshing too. Top marks from me .More Ben More Polly More Jamie and more Frazier’s 2nd Doc

They bring up the possibility of Ben possibly erasing himself from history if his Dad gets bumped off but after one cliffhanger that idea is promptly discarded. Might just be a matter of personal preference though on my part as I do enjoy the rest of the story.

I think the fear of it happening is always there throughout and the tension of a potential shape shifting alien in the jungle while the cast search is tension filled. and Polly being on her own with the same potential threat as the alien takes the form of one of the soldiers.Despite some faults as you mention its a good tale By Justin Richards an surely a foe worthy of a second outing
