I love Claude Rains as the Invisible Man he had such a distinctive voice & not been a fan of other adaptions & was sceptical about this release, but this adaption starring the late John Hurt literally gave me goosebumps as John gaves such a emotional performance allowing the listener to feel the characters inner turmoil.
Two hours of sheer entertainment, brilliant storytelling & fantastic performances all round.
So sad to think this amazing actor is sadly no longer with us but at least we have this, the War Doctor audios & his legacy of film & tv work to look back on & appreciate.

Absolutely love this I am so happy Big Finish got Hurt to star in this. What a wonderful thing to add to his War Doctor audios. I am sad there won't be more but I will treasure what we got. And as someone who also loves Claude Rains, Hurt definitely made this role his own.A sublime performance.
Also special mention to Blake Ritson who was also excellent. He's definitely one of my favorite guest actors Big Finish employs and I hope they use him many more times.
Jonathan Barnes always delivers with his Classic Adaptations.
This was an excellent start to the HG Wells audios at Big Finish.

Griffin's death is such a haunting scene. Beautifully played by Hurt and Ritson, top-notch score, excellent direction. I was dwelling on that for quite a while immediately after listening in a way I can't remember doing for a long time.

This was superb. A real shame John never got to see how much people enjoyed his performance as Griffin. Just brilliant... All round fantastic release.
Cheers

I delayed listening to this for a while and finally listened to it this week. It was great. I never had read the book and glanced at the wikipedia summary and saw a few of the liberties taken in the adaptation which worked quite well for me.
One thing about being invisible that also struck me was the bit about not wearing clothes. In this adaptation he does mention how he experimented with a cloth. I never watched any of the TV shows but looking at a summary I see the man and his clothes were all made invisible. What is the point of having the power of invisibility if you could freeze to death? Of course, Griffin was insane.

I listened to the free sample first chapter of this yesterday. I'm intrigued. I may have to pick it up one of these days.

John Hurt is my favourite actor. He never fails to amaze, both on audio and on screen. His distinct features, his watery eyes and his whiskey and nicotine addled voice. Each one utterly iconic in its own right.
Yet it took me so long to listen to The Invisible Man following his death. I think it’s because I am familiar with the story. Griffin isn’t a good man, nor is he a monster. As much is pointed out in the story itself. He is, however, a sympathetic character and the pain he endures is unsettling. The thought of John Hurt performing that, whilst tantalising, is also rather a sad thought. For me anyway.
But I’ve now just finished listening to it and it’s excellent. Such a brilliant adaptation of the story; both grounded and high concept. The soundtrack is great. The cast are fantastic, especially the lead man himself, though I expected no less. This is a master class in voice acting from John Hurt. He’s utterly engaging throughout.
Bravo Big Finish. Bravo Sir John Hurt.

Great adaptation of it must admit I hadn’t long finished listening to John Hurts war Doctor so gave it the hold off for a few months before listening to it.
