I loved The Sontaran Ordeal, (reminded me of Star Wars for some reason), it was a fairly generic story (and I still think New Series Sontarans were a bit misleading for a 'New' Monsters boxset) but told very well, as hyped as I am for the Time War Set I'm not going to listen to the preview, waited this long for the boxset, I can wait a little longer without spoiling any of the story... I am a tad concerned that Big Finish will have enough photographs of McGann's NOTD costume for a further 16 (or more) story covers...that 2 CDNM covers reused the same image, and the photo used for the Rulers Of The Universe was also used for some of 8th Doctor Titan comics, the promotional photoshoot for a 7 minute minisode can't have been that long... I wonder if they could get away with taking new pictures of Paul McGann in that costume? It was only four years ago and he hasn't aged that much in that time. Not sure if they would be allowed to. They could just take some photographs of Sylvester Mcoy in a unconvincing wig instead, if it was good enough for TV, it would work for a CD cover

Lovely story, but with one flaw for me, why on earth would the doctor do that, it didn't make sense that he would do that to Nissa! Just seemed very out of character for and certainly in his 8th incarnation.

Why would he do what? not tell her that he was the doctor. deception is not one of eights traits. I understand that its the plot device that makes the story work, I just does not seem like something the 8th doc would do.

Probably just did it to avoid altering history, given that he knows she reunites with his fifth self after this point in time.

I don't really think it's too out of character for the Eighth Doctor. I think he would do that to avoid damage to the Web of Time.

A Heart on Both SidesIt's the first time I've heard Sarah Sutton playing characters other than Nyssa - and what a great performance, I really enjoyed it. Another fine entry in the 2017 Short Trips collection, it's a very good 'murder mystery' short story with just enough clues that you might be able to spot the killer - or at least realise afterwards that you should have done! And a special story (with a brilliant title) for bringing Nyssa and the Eighth Doctor together in this way. The Time Lord plot did seem petty by their standards (the Doctor was right about that) but we don't know how late in the Time War this was. Surely the Time Lords of old would have sent in androids or some of their alien allies if they couldn't easily have occupied the world in person? So perhaps their resources were so exhausted that they were reduced to fighting and coercing at this basic level. Morally, it seemed fully in character for the Time Lords as we know they became under Rassilon. As for Nyssa's timeline, given the chaos of the Time War, perhaps this is an alternative timeline to that which would ultimately see the older Nyssa trapped in e-space? It's a serious and involving story but I laughed out loud at 'Doctor Foster from Gloucester' and the mention of heavy rain and puddles! It seemed just the sort of impish private joke that the Eight Doctor would enjoy! For listeners who don't know the nursery rhyme (only the first line is quoted in the story), it is: "Doctor Foster went to Gloucester in a shower of rain. He fell in a puddle right up to his middle and never went there again!" And I thought the dramatic artwork was very good indeed - perhaps it will be possible to do comparable story-themed enhancements on the stock photos used for future ST covers, as BF have done here and with the second batch of 'Rarities'?

And I'd guess the ryhme is where 'Doctor Foster' most probably got the inspiration for its title character's name from. Though the ryhme is so old, the real Doctor Foster (if any) was probably a religious doctor of learning rather than medicine, since Gloucester is a cathedral city.

Just finished the story this morning. It was great and since I not noticed the cover, I didn't know for sure that it was the 8th Doctor until I just now saw the cover. The absolute hate that Isherwood had for the Timelords sure fooled me. I wonder if we will see "Dr. Isherwood" again in another Time War story. Very well done.

Great story! I started listening wondering where in Nyssa's timeline would this fit and I was waiting for the Eighth Doctor to reveal himself at the end, and so explain why Nyssa didn't tell the Fifth Doctor about the Time War when she encounters him late. I suppose it is because she didn't want to disrupt the timeline, but it would had make much more sense if she had known that the Doctor who started to fight in the Time War was the Eighth. Anyway, I enjoyed a Time War story without Daleks and now I'm left wanting to hear more about the months the Eighth Doctor spends with Nyssa! Maybe a self contained 25 minutes tale, similar to "Klein's story" in one of the Eighth Doctor future Time War releases? Please make Sarah Sutton and Paul McGann happen! So does Nyssa count as a 8th Doctor companion as well now? The 8th Doctor must be nearing (or surpassing) 50 companions from all media by now...

LOL If he had mentioned them all before he started to regenerate, then Night of the Doctor would be, like, half an hour long "Charley, C'rizz, Lucie, Tamsin, Molly... Liv, Helen, Mary, Stacy, Ssard, Izzy, Fey, Destrii, Josie, Sam, Fitz, Compassion, Miranda, Debbie, Anji, Trix, Bazima, Todd, Rita, I suppose Susan and Alex count, Nyssa-though she didn't know it was me, Ramsay the Vortisaur was around for a while and so was Kroton the Cyberman, oh and not forgetting Samson and Gemma, that would be painfully ironic. Now do Grace and Chang Lee count? Eh, might as well. Physician, heal thyself..."

No wonder he keeps getting amnesia, even a timelord must have a limit to the number of names he can remember.
