This thread is great. It's about all the pain the writer of Bill & Ted went through, trying to make it in film, facing almost nonstop failures and errors along the way.

It very much depends on the context. If you can learn from the experience, and improve upon how you will approach the situation next. It's the definition of iteration, refining the process so it runs more smoothly and efficiently. It's an absolute must in computer programming or engineering, as you need to address what isn't working in order to get a working product. It's got athletic applications, in perfecting technique or strategy. Everyday interactions, you learn how not to annoy someone. Playing a videogame, you learn what works and what doesn't, developing a strategy for navigating certain areas or defeating specific enemies.
However in the event your stuff up has stuffed up something irreparably, you've failed. Be it a relationship, your reputation, the universe, if you can't have another go and there are huge consequences, you're boned.
