I also think The Master is able to stifle that recognition with his own mental powers. Or else how would all of those old terrible disguises worked?

If they do a multi-Master story, I hope they wait a few years until they can use Missy. I'm also still hoping that a later Third Doctor boxset will give us a recast Delgado Master who can also make an appearance. Maybe they can have his avatar from End of the Line too.

The Oseidon Adventure gave a small indication how mad, machiavellian and masterful a multi-Master audio could be.
I think that Beevers and MacQueen would work wonderfully together. Although of course they wouldn't!

I wonder what the chances of say, John Simm's Master, appearing in a new series spin-off like UNIT or Torchwood, or even River Song's series?
We know the Master escaped Gallifrey, but we don't really know how or when he became Missy.

We know the Master escaped Gallifrey, but we don't really know how or when he became Missy. I would imagine it would have been on Gallifrey given that his body was slowly dying due to Lucy Saxon's interference in his resurrection in The End of Time.

Would it be safe to presume that the Master was unable to regenerate during The End of Time? If his condition didn't hamper the process it would have saved him a lot of pain if he simply allowed his life force to deplete to the point of triggering his regeneration. The fact he never does so suggests to me that either.. 1) His condition, as a result of his botched resurrection, is indeed preventing him from doing so, or 2) He's deliberately holding back his regeneration, because he isn't certain he'll be able to it properly, or 3) He has no remaining regenerations.
If the last is true, it would mean that even if his resurrection had been a success, the Master's new body would not have retained the remaining regenerations he may have been capable of prior to his death in Last of the Time Lords. This is of course assuming that the John Simm Master was not the final incarnation of his second set of regenerations and still had at least one regeneration left in him. In order to become Missy then, the Simm Master must have...
1) Cured his condition in order to regenerate, or 2) Finally allowed his condition to trigger his regeneration, which he had previously been holding back, or 3) Acquired a new set of regenerations while on Gallifrey.

The fact he never does so suggests to me that either.. Good question! If memory serves me, he's not entirely alive, in the normal sense, in EoT. So presumably, if Simm isn't the 13th incarnation of his lifecycle, the regenerative part of his body is dead. So it would seem to be option #2.

It's difficult. My initial instinct was option 3, but I'm going for a variation. After killing Rassilon, the dying Master makes his way to the TARDIS cradles to steal a new ship. The ship gives him the extra help he needs to regenerate. Tenth Planet nakes it clear that the TARDIS has an important role to play in regeneration and it could be that the resurrection was so botched that he couldn't regenerate without the help of a TARDIS.

That seems plausible. Two problems though: 1. Why haven't we seen Missy's TARDIS yet? 2. Why does she choose to use a Vortex Manipulator if she has a TARDIS?

I'd love a Master mini-series. We need to see the character "win" more. See the fallout of his victories on the days The Doctor wasn't there. The character merits that kind of spinoff. Just as Dalek Empire and Cyberman showed similiar results for other foes when The Doctor was AWOL.
I'd like Beevers and MacQueen. Simm would be nice but he's closer to Eccleston than Tennant on the nostalgia scale - he ditched Life On Mars at its peak and has knocked back more than one sequel series - reently Prey on ITV. He also seemed to be coming back in End Of Time for RTD more than the show itself...I'd put him down as a "hopefully, but don't count on it".

I'm not sure if there's alot they could do with Simm's Master to be honest, his on screen appearances don't leave much room for expansion, maybe tie him in with some Martha stories in her year wandering the Earth or a vision from the Tardis console etc. I wasn't a big fan of Simm's master personally, but his manic energetic performance seemed tailor made for Tennant's Doctor, and you'd loose alot of Simm's eccentricities on audio I think. I'd be more interested in a pre-delgrado Master personally or maybe the return of Eric Roberts

I'm a bit on the fence about having pre-Delgado Masters at the moment. To me, Roger Delgado deserves the recognition of being "First Master" in that he was the first actor to carry that role and make something memorable out of it. If it weren't for his performance, the character would never have been brought back in The Deadly Assassin and still be with us today. Having Masters before Delgado would be like having Doctors before William Hartnell, it devalues how they "made" their respective characters.
Instead, I prefer the idea of having at least one incarnation set between him and Geoffrey Beevers, "post-Delgado" Masters in other words. Any incarnations existing before Delgado, such as William Hughes, could go by the name of Koschei for example, thus preserving Delgado's distinction as being the First Master in the sense that he'd be the first incarnation to go by that name. And besides, setting a spin-off series between Frontier in Space and The Deadly Assassin would allow for the odd reference of his encounters with the Doctor.
Now if Delgado is indeed the First Master, and BF chose to do a "Genesis of the Master" story like The Dark Path novel, then it would have to involve the last incarnation of Koschei regenerating into Delgado by the end of the story, which could be tricky but definitely doable. Whether it'd be an adventure for one of the first three Doctors, or a latter incarnation (Sixie perhaps?), would be an interesting matter on it's own.

To me, this seems like a perfect jumping on point for Simm Master stories post-EOT. He's clearly not supposed to be meeting Matt Smith's Doctor, but the idea of him breaking free of Gallifrey and seeking out a new way to regenerate seems irresistible to anyone who is a fan of the Beevers- type Master. There's also a tempting possibility whereby Simm's Master really could meet Smith's Doctor. In a sense, the linchpin of the Matt Smith era was that "Time can be rewritten", indeed if it were not for that sentiment then he would never have regenerated in 'Time of the Doctor', so before 'The Woman in the shop' there *could* have been a forgotten adventure yet to be told. Of course, this would rely on both Smith and Simm being willing to reprise their roles.
