All this talk of banning and punishing is all getting a bit troubling...... ..... the thought of banning because people disagree is troubling. ..... worried you guys might get pissed off and shut things down. I haven't been around as much as I'd like but one thing I can assure you is that the Moderation Team have no intention of banning people just because they disagree. I agree with everything jasonward said above and just want to add that while we would much prefer not to have to discipline members and get involved in disputes, that is why we are the Mod Team - to try and ensure that everyone on the forum is allowed to speak and discuss what they like ... providing the stay within the rules! Our rules are in no way Draconian and while they may seem to be too liberal, they should work for everyone. We adapt and add rules as and when we feel they are needed but it's the Coven of Mods (currently 13) that decide why, when, how (after much discussion). That doesn't mean you don't have a say and (I think Jason said earlier) there are places where you can propose and discuss potential new rules. The number and Members in the Mod Team are not set in stone and there is always the possibility of new mods in the future. We are just over a year old and we are still tweaking things to fit our collective brief - that is to have a fun, safe and friendly place to discuss BF audios, DW and other topics. Issues may take time to be resolved, but I wouldn't want to be part of a team that decides on a whim to ban or punish just because of our own personal beliefs. That's why we debate, argue (yes sometimes) and eventually agree appropriate courses of action. Cheers Tony

All this talk of banning and punishing is all getting a bit troubling......people seem to be wanting revenge. [...] i dont know what I would do without you guys, and the thought of banning because people disagree is troubling. No, that wasn't my angle anyway. I disagree with loads of people here. I certainly don't want people banned for that. What ticked me off was I came on this forum at the weekend with my tea and biscuits and a thread I wanted to respond to was locked. So nobody could play any part of the discussion. Which didn't seem fair to the posters having a sensible (ish) discussion. (And it seemed to be the same people as the last time a thread got locked here and posts deleted.) Jason has explained the reasons above, and that's fine. However, I was of the view that instead of locking a thread to enable people to cool down and let the mods investigate the relevant complaints, if the actual posters were given a 24/48hr ban - to cool down if you like - then discussions on that thread could continue. In my mind it served the same purpose of allowing the mods to investigate, but the people not getting personal and crossing the line were still able to contribute to that thread. We could still have hugs and cuddles when they return. After all, short bans on the old BF forum never did Jason, Paul and Dalekbuster any harm did they? They are still here preaching their own brand of peace and love in the Divergent Universe and contributing to making this place an enjoyable community. My next proposition was that repeat offenders should be taken out and given fifty lashes though!

Thanks for all the posts responding to my concerns.
I wasn't questioning you, just concerned that when I say the really controversial stuff like, I don't like chimes of midnight, series 3, 4 & 5 of Dorian were a bit of a let down and I don't really like stories with the master/missy.
I am going to find my account locked, with no way back! I just couldn't bear it!
Take care guys & thanks once again

I work for the Canadian government and do my best to avoid political discussion as humanly possible in my off hours, as such I will rarely comment on political comments.
I will say that when it comes political discussion (actually pretty much all online posting), many people would spare themselves a world of trouble by taking the time to read what they wrote before posting and asking themselves whether their word choice could be better thought out to avoid creating heated arguments or their views being misconstrued.

We agree with giving people chances on here. And we certainly wouldn't ban anyone simply because we disagreed with them. I should point out the mods don't always agree either. Stevo we will look into your suggestions on this thread. Thank you!

I will defend anyone's right to talk utter rot.
However I expect those people to listen and think about the responses they receive.
Also if we keep the toxic chat in the designated threads then we can now avoid them if we want.

There is a case to say that politics has NO place on this forum, which was set up to discuss Big Finish audio drama and not race, religion, gender, abortion, brexit, Trump, etc.
Im all for closing the categories related to peoples views on the world if it takes us back to what we are all here for.

Set up to discuss BF Audios and Doctor Who in general and unfortunately politics is a large part of DW so you'll never get away from that one. Just look at Zygon Invasion/Inversion - very topical and worthy of political discussion. I understand what you are saying but forums (in general) do expand into other areas, the trick is keeping those posts in the relevant place so people can choose whether to participate or not. There's nothing worse than going into a thread about ... and being hit by unrelated topics/arguments. Cheers Tony

In all fairness, most online forums these days have off-topic sections where anything goes. Which in theory is supposed to stop those types of discussions - usually politics and religion - appearing in unrelevant threads... however, they do still tend to creep in from time to time. I also make guest appearances on a comics forum and their 'politics' thread has been locked a couple of times since November too. Moderators of all online forums since the election of President Trump and Brexit are living in challenging times!

The important thing is to always maintain a sense of proper decorum. Politics are inflammatory, and there sadly isn't much that can be done about that, but as long as you are willing to be civil and give people their space to say what's on their minds, then it shouldn't be a cause for concern, or a platform for any kind of bullying.

I never talk politics on this forum. Or almost never. It's not because it doesn't interest me. On the contrary. However I find that unless I'm discussing it with people who are actually interested in listening, I find it causes more problems than is solves. And you rarely find that on the internet.

***** Moderation *****
Guys and Gals, we currently have a few threads that are hotbeds of controversy and by their very nature, very emotive. Even though these threads are not about subjects this forum was created for, The Mod Team don't actually want to ban such topics from conversation as discussion is generally a good thing and can help us to understand different issues that affect different cultures and we are looking at the best way to allow them (but also stop them from spreading across the rest of the forum). However, the discussions have to remain polite and cannot descend into name calling, threats, abuse or bad behaviour. The Mod Team are spending far too much of our time having to move/delete posts and look at reported posts because of these threads. If it carries on we will have no choice but to ban the topics and take serious action against members who break the rules ( and those who sail close to breaking them without actually breaking them). Rules of the forum can be found here and before posting I urge everyone to re-read them. Remember, you don't actually have to break them fully to be disciplined and we are looking very closely at what happens in these threads. Remember the rules: - Respect your fellow members. Refrain from making inflammatory or defamatory comments (including but not limited to: flaming, taunting, degrading comments, and general disrespect).
- No offensive posts, links, or images. Please do not post messages, images or links to content that is obscene, vulgar, pornographic, racist or likely to cause offence
- Highly contentious discussions will not be allowed on the forum if they are offensive or if they generate too much work for the moderators. If something becomes too heated the thread may be closed, edited or even deleted.
Our advice is don't get into arguments, if you feel yourself getting wound-up or in the middle of a heated conversation - walk away. You don't have to get the last word, if you think someone is trolling, report it to us and add the member to your ignore list but don't feed the trolls! This post will be copied into all of the political threads - there will be no more warnings! ***** End Moderation *****
