Matthew always speaks of Jim with such great love and respect. He'll be very much missed.

I'm sorry to report that Jim French passed away at the end of last week. He was 89 and his health had been shaky for some time. His work in radio stretches back 70 years, and I don't know if anybody did more to keep radio drama alive and kicking in America than Jim did. His legacy is huge, his reputation well-earned. He was also just a kind, generous and thoroughly decent human being. I was lucky to work with him on around 30 plays over the space of ten or twelve years. I'm saddened by Jim's passing but grateful for him having been here and for the legacy he leaves behind. Jim will be missed terribly. Terrible news.

Still, it's good that others continue onward. I think Jim's passing interrupted the flow of back-catalog re-issues on YouTube. Then, they recently issued a recently recorded installment, with the tag at the end that another live session was upcoming. That live show was earlier this month, so hopefully we'll continue to see some more of Jim's legacy...!

Man, I hadn’t listened to IT for years but this thread brought me back. Great work that felt like OTR but with more modern sensibilities. So sorry to hear of his passing... Time to find the YouTube channel.

He really was an incredibly important figure in the survival of radio drama in some very difficult years.

Oh yeah, I found that log about a year ago and have looked at it many times. What a massive amount of material, even if some of it involved reruns or outside productions.

Now, I'm surprised no one has mentioned it here yet, despite Jim French having passed, Imagination Theatre is still active, and to help it along, they have started up a crowd-funding thingamajig. I chunked a bit of change their way... I've listened to their shows on YouTube for free, for a long time now, and I wanted to give back and this seemed the best time/way to do so! www.gofundme.com/from-jim-french-productions-to-aural-vision-llc

I'll be chipping in a few bucks when I get paid for a job I've done. I've been chatting with Larry at Imagination Theatre recently - actually, we're friends so we chat anyway - but we had a chat so I could wish them all the best luck in the world. I really hope this is successful and goes well for them.

Hey Ian. Nice to hear from you again. Of anyone I did expect you would be likely to respond. I admit that I was maybe a little disappointed when no one else did. Still, not sure how many of the readers here are YouTube purveyors of Imagination Theatre. I class it a little different than BF, Big Finish to me is Audio Drama (or audiobooks in certain instances) but I.T. is radio drama. I know it's always alternated between studio and stage but the show felt the same to me either way.
I don't know if they'll make their funding goal or not, there was a pretty good rush of donations about the same time as I did, then it dwindled off.

Well, I see that they are getting closer to their fundraising goal.
And they are already putting the dollars to work by going into studio!
This is "radio drama" but it's damn well produced and if anyone has ever experienced Jim French's Imagination Theatre, I encourage them to donate to try to keep Jim and Pat's legacy going.

I think they're just over a grand shy of their target with a couple of months still to go. I'll be chipping in when I (finally) get paid for a job I did a while ago. I would definitely encourage fans of OTR to think about contributing. Jim and Pat left an amazing legacy and I am so glad to see this revival.

Holy cow, I see that they made their goal... and then some!
Looking at the donation log, it was mostly due to one extra-large contribution.
It wasn't me, although I think I may add some more in at a later date. Whoever chipped in this time, good job, dude!
They have stated that any overage will be applied to the next series, so that's good.
