Although I think Jonathan Morris is incapable of writing a bad story, this is a very slight affair. Enjoyable, but slight. Guest actors elevating their performances with funny voices (a camp turn from Matthew Cottle as an improbable husband) and standard modulated BF monsters with exagerated manners ('please refrain' before every order) lead me once again to wonder how this approach, so appropriate to series 17 (indeed dialogue is lifted straight from that era), could possibly be thought compatible with the trappings of series 18. I know I've made this point before, but it continues to rankle. When the stories have been as strong as they had been until now, it doesn't matter so much, but such unsuitability becomes more apparent when the attention is allowed to wander, as is the case for me here.

I finished listening to the story yesterday. I thought it was quite fun. The characters were really a delight.

Interesting to listen to it in light of "The Doctor Falls" and how Cybermen are basically waiting to evolve in many species.

i thought this as a average rather bland audio drama, i usually love Jonathan Morris stories but this one didn't fire up my enthusiasm.
Reviewed on my Amazon page.

I am late getting around to listening to this....I just like having a Tom Baker disc waiting to be listened to - it gives me a warm glow!
As for this release it is by far my favourite story of this current run 9/10. It made me smile, it surprised me and was just a lovely listen.

I finally listened to this yesterday. Not my favorite Jonathan Morris story if for not other reason the Silex just struck me as warmed over Cybermen.

I finally listened to this yesterday. Not my favorite Jonathan Morris story if for not other reason the Silex just struck me as warmed over Cybermen. Yes I felt that the Silex were too similar to the Cybermen, just Cybermoles! If it wasn't for that it would have been a 10/10 for me. However I really liked their catchphrase - Thy Will be Done. Plus this story has given us the first opportunity to hear Jane Slavin as the Fourth Doctor's companion.

Felt this was a bit ordinary. An enjoyable enough listen but very disposable. Some nice performances though and at least the Yorkshire/Dickens aspects kept it from becoming too generic!
And Romana seemed a bit more cheerful than usual, the constant bad mood was getting wearying.

Agree with some of the comments here. It is slight, the baddies are a poor imitation of the Cybermen and I think it’s the worst of the season so far. However, that doesn’t stop there being some positives. Tom sounds like he’s having the best time, Lalla is fun in this one and the guest cast are eclectic and bonkers.

Is this really disliked? This is one of my favorites from the entire series because it's just so fun and goofy.

I enjoyed the story overall. I didn't really think the Silex were like Cybermen exactly. It's a similar theme but the execution was different.
