As the Whovian community we all need to come together and try to get this poor man David Tennant's autograph:
Time for a petition.

Until we know both sides of this story, I'll refrain from giving an opinion on the incident in question, if at all.
As a fan of Doctor Who I'm also from an age where one went to various conventions and events and never had to pay for any autographs. I still don't and never will, apart from the cost of a stamped self addressed envelope.

Christchurch and Dunedin Armageddon have the guy who is playing Cyborg in the upcoming Justice League, he can't have been cheap for the organisers to get to appear. It sounds like the conventions you're used to were A) based in the UK and B) the former Doctor and companion actors weren't getting as much work as they used to and the show was more niche than it is today. The lines today are pretty long and that's those willing to pay! In the age of Comic-Con and Gallifrey One it isn't schools and hotels in rural areas anymore.

Is this really worth of a thread? If a minor did get punched by a grown-up in these circumstances then, yes, it's probably more worthy of a thread than pretty much anything else on this forum.

I looked at the tweets last night, as far as I can tell, there is an allegation, no corroboration and the accused has not said anything. If the kid was assaulted he needs (or his parents need) to report it to police, what this situation does not need is a mob reaction of outrage, the accused could be innocent.

The lines today are pretty long and that's those willing to pay! In the age of Comic-Con and Gallifrey One it isn't schools and hotels in rural areas anymore. Most hotel-held cons I've been to have been in large cities, such as London, Birmingham, Manchester or Coventry. Lines in those cons were also pretty long too (I still have nightmares from the 2003 40th Anniversary convention, all those narrow hotel corridors lined up with hordes of people!). The only out of city convention I've been to was the one where I actually helped to organise and put one together in the late 1990s and even then it was on a large scale and matched those large city cons easily. But as you correctly guessed, I'm from the UK so I guess things work differently around here. I know the tide has turned considerably since and because of the world-wide-web, but after 20+ years of convention attendance (my first being the 20th at Longleat) the old, non-greedy ways are so ingrained within me, I guess I'm of the 'old school'.

As both sides of the story are now coming out, with it the defence coming across as much stronger as well as the accused having gone to the police himself with witness reports, its beginning to sound like the young lad's 'woe is me' / "I have special needs, I need to be at front of the crowds" story is now looking a bit iffy. I knew something wasn't right yesterday when the lad called him an 'autograph dealer' (he isn't), I mean how would he have known this? With other witnesses, it looks like this lad's story is now backfiring on him. DalekBuster, This is why its important to get both sides of the story first before involving yourself with slander.

Do you mind telling us a bit more about the story as I don't know where to go fishing for information?

I've just read the kid's side of the story: www.itswilliam.us/2017/02/mad-to-be-normal-premiere-dealers-very.htmlAnd, if I'm honest, what Paul did was wrong, but so was Will's. This kid seemed to be acting extremely wet about things and, if he had proper IBS problems (or at least as bad as he says), I suggest his mother should have gone with him. He's only 15, for goodness sake! However, I think it isn't the full story. I would like to hear Paul's side, as the details of what Paul said aren't clear and I'd suggest that, if he did say such hateful things, there would be some kind of motivation for it.

Balls to that, there's no excuse for assault. Knowing both sides of the story is not an excuse for anything. There is no reason for assault. It's one of those odd little universal rules for polite functional society "don't hit people". he could have been the gobbiest, most annoying fanboy since Whizz-Kid and he's still not deserve a punch in a polite society.

We don't know if the kid didn't do anything physically to Paul or properly verbally assault or even harass him. In them kinds of incidents, physical attack could rated as fair.
