I have not worked in a week, so I've been doing a lot of reading. Sekret Machines: Book One Chasing Shadows A rather sprawling book that is historical fiction, science fiction and military thriller. What is UFOs are not aliens but super high tech military flying machines developed by the Nazis during WWII and followed up by the Russians & the US post-WWII? Parts of it are a little overwritten but for a 600+ page book, I tore through it pretty quickly.
The Fold Scientists develop a gateway for humans to move from one space to another by folding reality. Things go pretty wrong in a hurry and in some really surprising ways. A lot of fun. Where the book starts and where it ended going really kind of surprised me.
King Maybe-A Junior Bender Mystery One of my favorite continuing series. Bender is the best thief in Los Angeles who also sometimes acts as private detective to the criminal class in the City of Angels. Of the four or five books in the series, this is one of my favorites. If you like well written characters and very tight writing, this is a great series to get caught up in.

Engines of War - George Mann This was a fantastic read. Really captures the War Doctor and reveals all those little tidbits that i like. {Spoiler} Anyone else think that the Greenpeace T-shirt is a reference to Sam Jones? The Clockwise man - Justin Richards The first Ninth Doctor Novel and also first NSA book. a great way to kick off his run. {Spoiler} also, even though this was written before the War Doctor was even a speck in Moffatt's eye, but could you retroactively think that the battered Brown Leather jacket Nine gives Repple at the end is the War Doctor's jacket?

Finished the Bernice Summerfield New Adventure series book Dead Romance. Very odd story. And Bernice wasn't even in it, though she was mentioned. I think it could have benefited from a bit less wordiness, frankly. Toward the end I read kind of fast just to get finished with it. And I didn't like much how Chris Cwej's character was portrayed toward the end. I feel like I'm missing some pieces in terms of how he landed where he was in that particular story.

Doctor Who: The Resurrection Casket. I haven't read any of the New Series novels, and this one was alright. It's the first book I've managed to read in one day for several years though, and I'm disappointed it was so short.

Last night I finished reading Tears of the Oracle by Justin Richards. Great story with interesting tidbits about Benny, Brax, and Jason. And more about how the People fit in with the whole story line. Really enjoyed the story.

The Vinyl Detective: Written In Dead Wax by Andrew Cartmel. Maybe the strongest first book in a soon-to-be ongoing mystery series that I have read in quite a long time. If you love mysteries, well drawn characters, coffee and jazz. This book is for you. My only complaint is I got so involved with it that I pretty much devoured in over three evenings and I'm already finished with it. Or that I want the second book, The Run-Out Groove, to already be available and in my hands. This book is a ton of fun. More please. Now.

I recently discovered "Rivers of London" by Ben Aaronovitch- I don't know if anyone else has read it, but it's a detective novel crossed with a large amount of magic and the whole thing is brilliant. I've managed to read the first three books of the series (Rivers of London, Moon Over Soho and Whispers Underground) in as many weeks and it only took me that long because I couldn't get back to the bookstore quickly enough. The protagonist is really good, but I love Lady Ty (who is a river) even more.

I didn't read it yet because I wanted to read the first few books since it is set at that point in the series. There have been a few issues since then as well. I'll have to check the books out now!

If you like supernatural mystery/adventure books you might also like Mike Carey's Felix Castor novels.

"The Innocents Abroad, Vol. 1" - Mark Twain
This is or appears to be a quasi-fictionalized account of a European/African/Etc tour he took on a pleasure cruise.Informative, interesting, and hilarious. School ruined Twain for me, and I only now rediscover him, gladly; what a wit!

It is always good when you can rediscover authors without that critical eye schools make you have.
