Shame that certain new series fans wouldn't give it a chance because 'it's only audio'. I think, unfortunately BF are in a bit of a loose-loose situation with many New Who fans, audio is an expensive and niche format and BF's customer base is small in comparison to the TV series, the prices reflect that and have worked for the audience over the last 20 years, but those fans won't be around forever and many won't be interested in New Who audios, many New Who fans are younger and have less disposable income, if they haven't heard audio dramas before the cost might put them off giving the format a chance, if I was a 15 year old fan given the choice of paying for either a DVD series boxset for $30 or 3 audioplays with my pocket money, I know what I would be more likely to choose. You've made some great points. I will also add that many of the New Who fans (at least, the ones I've seen on social media) are incapable of distinguishing between an audiobook and an audio drama, even after the differences have been explained to them 15 times.

To be fair, a good reader on an audiobook can make it feel much like an audio drama, Terry Malloy reading the Lethbridge-Stewart novels is a good example of that. Frank Mueller was the greatest I ever knew of, his readings of the first of Stephen King's Dark Tower books, and the Green Mile spring to mind right away.

If you want the greatest audiobook that feels like a radio play then look no further than Chris Barrie's readings of the first two Red Dwarf novels: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and Better Than Life. They even cut them down and added sound effects to make them a radio series.

Hopefully if someone is willing to pay for a DVD series boxset that's a big step in the right direction? I think the biggest hurdle for me was just the idea of paying for something that is basically free on television, give or take that we used to get Doctor Who on viewer-supported public TV in the US. (Buying DVDs though, you get to watch what you want, when you want, as many times as you want, in generally the best quality available, which is very attractive). I've gone from this still somewhat foreign idea of "paying for free TV shows," to wanting to be pre-ordered at Big Finish at least a year in advance in hopes my dollars are helping these ongoing series to remain viable. It's quite wonderful if one is able to do something in some small way about whether or not these series exist in ongoing form rather than just wishing and wishing that various series or performers would come back. I absolutely love what Big Finish does including their commendable efforts to obtain original performers instead of just recasting everyone in creation, and it's great to think of being able to offer them any amount of support. Both of my favorite Big Finish series are unique, massive, epic stories that are not only very hard to get bored with - imagine that, Hartnell through Capaldi, it's all one big story - but are actually still being written. New audio episodes are still dropping in between TV episodes, which taken in the right spirit is just fantastic. I know nobody's forcing me to buy audios just to get the "complete" story that I used to think I already had, but I just can't really imagine missing out. In spite of usually being preposterously visually oriented, I actually prefer the audios in many ways because I spend so much time multi-tasking and they make it possible to be doing both, whereas a lot of my TV watching happens only when multi-tasking isn't really possible. I hope any or all of that eventually appeals to younger New Series viewers, and I hope the vast difference between audiobooks and audio dramas will be self-explanatory to them - I still struggle with audiobooks myself, but not with audio dramas. Also, if the price tags scare anyone, it's good to remember just how much a mere ten or twenty dollars or pounds a month will actually get you from Big Finish. I think some more horror-oriented stuff might make a good starting point to gain appreciation for audio? You can picture things as scary as you like, or not picture them at all which is often even scarier - things can be much better at springing out of nowhere on audio. A couple of really old radio dramas might not hurt, either - it's an amazing fact that TV didn't always have pictures, so to speak - but experiencing a little of that is, in a way, very much like owning your own time machine. I think there is a lot to be said for audio (including that in the winter months, my headphones keep my ears warm) :-)

It's more likely Blake's 7, an official announcement of Spoils of War (looks like a box set based on the SoundCloud page for the trailer). If you can find it, the tags provide an exciting development for the range. Might make your Day.

Whovitt says Blake's 7 will be announced on Thursday. That makes sense to me because whilst Blake's 7 has a big cult following I'm not sure it would be deemed major news.

Can I ask how you know there will be an announcement then? I see in the news article on the website that it says "announcement to ensure one of Big Finish's ranges is down and safe" I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound like The Tenth Doctor Adventures to me.

It's on the new podcast - there's something Nick and Benji can't talk about as it isn't officially announced until tomorrow at 5.15pm, as the studio recordings won't have finished. It's not Blake's 7, as that's discussed separately in the podcast, and whatever it is it sounds like big news.
(Tennant is still in Don Juan. Don't get your hopes up.)

It sounds like a property Big Finish have a licencing contract with, one they currently still hold. Could conceivably be Blake's 7, as Dark Shadows had a new release announced recently. 2000AD perhaps, that range hasn't seen much action for years (January 2010 to be precise). Pathfinder Legends perhaps, even though the current set of stories is still being released. More Avengers perhaps (further comic strip adaptations, original stories). Might be Survivors, but that's assured well up to the end of 2018.

I don't follow the Blake 7 range so does "down and safe" tie in with that?

Maybe Nick or someone is doing a live stream on Facebook or Periscope.

I just put "down and safe" into google as a search and the first thing that comes up is regarding Blake7 so I guess that is the news regarding that range and nothing to do with this Monday announcement.

"Down and safe" is a Blake's 7 reference - but, as already said, that's already mentioned in the podcast and is seemingly different to the Secret Thing.

Okay, just so everyone's on the same page - the news piece today makes the "down and safe" reference, which is an indicator to the Blake's 7 news. In the podcast, this news was confirmed to be announced on Thursday. The BIG news is described as something incredible for Big Finish fans, and will be announced at 5:15 on Monday the 15th of May (though it did not specify am or pm - anyone saying pm is speculating, though it is a fair speculation to make). Hope that clears things up

He could have found time alongside doing Don Juan, or Billie Piper recorded separately and David Tennant has already filmed his part. I'm not getting my hopes up but I am not going to hoping for 10DA Volume 2 until it is one day announced. If it's not 10DA Volume 2 then it could be something else new series related though.
