Memo to Nick/BF
Please please please ditch the Viryans and the Ever & ever prolixity and Robert Buchan for series 3
EDIT: It would take Charley meeting 8 again to really get this spin-off back on track

I'm glad to see the second set attracting some favorable reviews. I might disagree somewhat with the first review in that to felt to me like part 3 could have done with a just a bit more plot thickener or maybe ominous rumblings to keep events progressing more evenly, but I still think this set is worthy of high praise. Nearly perfect in my book, and highly listenable.

Most of the negative comments I've seen were because it didn't feel like a Charlotte Pollard set and it now seems that was deliberate. Maybe the change in style should have been better telegraphed in tue advance publicity.

All I know is, I'm not pre-ordering Vol 3 after what happened with Vol. 2.

I was pleasantly surprised with CP Series 1, it for me was rather good. A classic case of not believing all the reviews, where I recall at least one was not favorable. I think it is fairly certain that the this has legs to become a stalwart series in the BF catalog. Rightly so, it begs the question, as to whether other companions could or should have had the same opportunities for a run of their own, of course aside from Jago and Litefoor, which is sheer genius. CP of which I am listening slowly through Series 2 (Chapter 2 at present) is just as good, in fact the character development and the movement of the story line is probably a little better, certainly I would be happy with more of the Adventuress adventures. Do we think that maybe she may return with a Doctor as a companion one day. Certainly showcases the ingenuity, love and care of Big Finish in their handling of the whole canon and it's continuation and growth. Good stuff. Back to Charlie and Robert adventures for me today.

I listened to series 1 Thursday. And the whole of series 2 yesterday.
What a disappointment!
The cliffhanger was awful, the love story or whatever it was fell very short, very little humor, and India Fisher was flat vocally. Not a lot to entice me to buying series 3.
I did enjoy Bertram and the supporting characters were fantastic. But that's about it.
When and if they bring out 3 I'll wait for the huge price drop to even think about buying it. And that's a shame.
Time for bf to get some new writers, cause this was some of Nick Briggs worst work that I've heard.
A one disc special to finish off Charlie once and for all, is all series 2 deserves, cause they really hit the crapper with this one.

For what it's worth I actually quite enjoyed this release. I agree with some other posters that Charley's role seemed almost incidental; she didn't quite demand the story as much as I was expecting, and yes, contemporary London is an odd place to stick her in. But oddly enough none of that really bothered me. Charley and Robert had great rapport with one another, the Identical Men were intriguing foes, the supporting cast all put in great performances, and Nick Briggs' sound design was top notch! And I can't forget Bertram. That wonderfully alien politeness he had made for some great comedy.
I suppose my only real issue with the set would be the fourth episode. It felt tonally out of place with the rest of the story (without going too much into spoilers) and, perhaps as a consequence of this, brought the pacing down considerably. It's almost as if episodes one through three were written together at a much earlier time when Briggs may have had a creative burst or something, then after the project stalled - assuming it did - Briggs came back sometime later to write the fourth episode but wasn't quite in the right headspace to do it. I can't say I was taken by the cliffhanger either. I'd have preferred a solid ending so the set would function more as a standalone and less like something that feels like the middle part of a trilogy.
All criticism aside this was one of the more engrossing boxsets I've had the pleasure to go through since Doom Coalition 3. I'll definitely be getting Series 3 if there ever is one.

Only just got around to listening to this, and I enjoyed it, but I was disappointed by the ending, I was expecting more, it felt like a story half finished. One other thing I found odd, was the musical accompaniment, it sounded very similar to the music used on Counter Measures, which I always felt and understood was a tonal thing to set the series in the 60's, and so kept jarring for me with the modern setting. Finally, just a troubling aspect of the story, much like Torchwood Miracle Day, where's the Doctor? Millions are dying and there dropping a nuke on London and The Doctor is no show?

Up to The Destructive Quality of Life.
God, I love this. Honestly, this is for me my favourite release of 2017 so far (doing a catch up due to life stuff). I love the darker tone, the wonderful off the brakes feeling - this is a Doctor Who story without The Doctor without any of the easy trimmings of the other spin-offs. (I haven't listened to Graceless). It's mad, relentless, brilliance. I've been in a dark mood and you know what, I don't care. That's how brilliant this is. I loved series one, but this just....surpasses it.
NICK BRIGGS, THIS WAS WORTH THE WAIT AND HURRY UP WITH SERIES THREE BUT TAKE YOUR TIME BECAUSE IT'S BRILLIANT.

Ok so I listened to Box Set one and reading back I enjoyed it. but that was over a year ago and never got around to box set two. What happened? I loved her as a companion with the eighth Doctor and with Sixie so why didn’t I immediately buy set 2.Static left me absolutely skipping for the next Flip and Constance I just don’t know. But soon to be rectified.I ordered set 2. Why didn’t it grab me begging for set 3 and set 2? Ravenous 2 hadme setting myself for set 3. doom Coalition 3 had me eager for set 4. each River Song Set had me eager for the next. dark shadows BloodLust had me tearing my hair out for Bloodline. So this week I will go back to Charley and see if I just wasn’t in a good mindset at the time ....

I love Charley, but this never really interested me, parts because of the story and parts because of the reviews. Plus I always had a hard time dealing with bleak stories. I might be enticed however if we ever get the last meeting between Charley and the 8th Doctor.

Well I won’t listen to 2 till I have relistened to one all I can honestly rememebr of it is Anneke wills was her mother and after recently really really loving again Annekes Polly it’s going to be interesting to revisit it. we always say to each other mind set and mood plays a Vast part in our listening and that will be a good gauge.Charley is interesting and loveable even the Viyrans are interesting so why didn’t I immediately grasp the second series eagerly with both ears?Briggs is great writer most times and can craft some great tales.I will withhold my judgement till I relisten and let you know 🤪

Well i went against my own plan and have thrown myself straight into Box Set 2 which just arrived from Amazon- So it appears to be a Single four part story which should be interesting and i love that the first story dives straight into the action and gives us a quick potted history via Charley of who she is to Robert who i remember from the first set....

This is good BF still the leads work well together and the supporting cast are up to the usual high standard. The sound design and incidental music is excellent . It on first impressions is slightly dark in tone But given Charley always comes across as jolly that isn’t a bad thing

Charley needs cheered up is my impression i mean she really has been through the shit so to speak i mean from bubbly exuberance to well a very bleak journey with eight etc,the divergent universe and C’rizz i mean they need to put some fizz back in her life get back the jollies-she needs a right knees up and a some champagne-send her doon the `Red tavern- Ellie will knock her into shape

It isn’t bleak its slightly more thriller, film noir-but that isn’t a bad thing episode one ends well enough Strangely the theme tune not really enjoying. there are enough questions and mystery going on to keep me interested in hearing more. 🤪

Problem was, not much to it until the last episode which completely through me for a loop. Completely came out of nowhere. Well I look forward to that I hope. What Charley is on her own is stuck... no Doctor-locked up a lot ,with no sonic, doors are doors and locked doors remain locked. But I was expecting something terrible and it’s not, exceptional it isn’t either but it’s enjoyable all the same
