I just think it is weird to have creators moaning in public about reviews, especially one that is more or less really quite positive. I produce & direct theater and there have been reviews where I have strongly disagreed with the perspective of the reviewer but would never think to engage publicly on it. If I felt really strongly I might engage privately but even that is really rare. Like maybe 3 times in 30 years rare. Anyway, I'm surprised that Nick's skin is so easily pierced after all these years.

True he could have just ignored it if he didn't like the review but he didn't just start tweeting about a review he randomly found on the Internet.

Social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc) is often where we are guilty of replying without actually truly thinking through how our words will be taken and how they will reflect on us or the organization we represent (and stating your comments are your own, sadly doesn't let you off in today's society). This may be a case, and like is one of Nick shooting from the hip and not realizing that he would have been better off not replying or leaving his reply as a thank you and adding nothing more. Whatever was going through his mind at the time he responded, I think most of us can at least agree that by and large he is pleasant to interact with the majority of the time.

Perhaps he thought he was sending a direct message? He's probably mortified now.

Nick has taken less than glowing forum comments and less than 10/10 reviews poorly before. Nothing new here. I don't even think he means to come off as a bit harsh, just a poor choice of words. It'd be nice if I could actually read the synopsis on recent Fourth Doctor stories without scrolling down past the glowing reviews.

I haven't heard Charlotte Pollard Vol. 2.
However, I do have to applaud Nick on writing the only decent box set from the War Doctor series, which seemed to get increasingly awful and dull as it went on. For that endeavor I would give Nick an 8/10 and most of the other War Doctor writers very low numbers.
But that's a topic for another thread. Do carry on!

I don't want to derail this thread, but if you would pm me your thoughts, I would love to get a more detailed reasoning. I haven't heard the last 3 boxsets so all opinions are appreciated.

I finished this set and...wow. I didn't expect it to get so bleak in the end.
Now there better be a Volume 3!

Really good box set. Better than expected and def better than series one.
That said, I did think that the least necessary part of the whole thing was Charley. She was just ... there.

That last hour was both jarring and dark. Throughout the whole thing Charley felt like a pinball protagonist, someone who bounces around the place without having much to do with the actual antagonistic scheme.
Let's hope it won't take another three years for the next volume to appear.

I dunno, maybe everything seems sort of incidental next to an Ever And Ever Prolixity? As much as I enjoy hearing Dan Starkey, I didn't think Bertram quite made it his boxset.

The physical product has arrived and I must say that I am impressed with the package. I haven't listened to the audio as yet, but it certainly looks an improvement over the last set.
And thank you Big Finish for making the slip case image different to that on the cover of the CD case inside. I can never understand when DVD manufacturers put cardboard sleeves around the DVD, but just use the exact same cover.
I wish that the booklet was a bit more substantial, but that is an ongoing issue...
Now I am hoping that they have taken the opportunity to put some "omph" into her theme tune!

Not to bring up the whole review tweet debacle again but I was just listening to this weeks Big Finish podcast and this is brought up (although not by name thankfully) in the Listeners emails section 😂. In fairness Nick does mention he was in 'abit of a bad mood' when he replied.

I'm hoping that the future of the range isn't contingent on better sales than you might expect to result from a 7/10 rating. It worries me if I dwell on the fate of the Novel Adaptations. Haven't heard the new set yet but I'd already give it 9/10 because it has India in it. She really is amazing. I finally listened to the first box set yesterday and not even once did I think, "Oh, this would be better if only one of The Doctors would turn up". So are you seriously saying you would automatically give it a 9/10 without listening?

So are you seriously saying you would automatically give it a 9/10 without listening? Well, okay - small amount of hyperbole there. :-) Not without actually listening to it, of course... But I'd just listened to the first volume for the first time not more than two days before and I'd probably give that a 9. I was expecting as much from the second volume and wasn't disappointed, so having heard the second set I'd be very tempted to rate it same. I do think very highly of India though, too - nothing I can think of that she's done that I didn't really enjoy (even a couple of spots earlier in the Monthly Range that might have been written just a bit better).
