Now, I think Ant and Dec are awful. They aren't funny, and they don't appeal to my age! All they do is present! They don't sing, dance or do sketches!
When Doctor Who is on, they have a strong start to a Saturday night. So, why can't they have a decent show to go with it? Why can't they improve the prizes for Blankety Blank, and The Generation Game? But, do they have the presenters to go with the show? There are so few tv presenters, that I find it incredible that the BBC aren't looking for anyone! Its always Graham Norton, Mel and Sue or Julian Clary! Are there no BBC executive that could take a risk?

All they do is present! They don't sing, dance or do sketches! Actually, they did have a fairly successful singing career. And I remember enjoying the rather racy comedy shows (considering the age of the audience) they did on the BBC and Channel 4 many moons ago. And they're not quite as popular as people make out (hence getting awards handed to them on the nod); but for some reason people tune into the crap they work on. And, hell, if people tune in what motivation have they got to do anything better? (But it's not all beer and skittles over at ITV. "The Thing With the Chairs" has apparently got just the same poor ratings as it did on the BBC. And why is Harry Hill stuck on a graveyard slot on a Thursday?)

It's all crappy reality tv nowadays which has completely ruined television, originality is a thing of the past.

I would agree that there's a gap in family TV. There need to be more made for everyone in the house to watch together. I don't think we appreciate how much Doctor Who is that sole show for a lot of people but, to be fair, Ant And Dec also are must-see for a lot of families too even if I've never consciously watched them since Byker Grove. There's still a staggering amount of great fiction in this country, especially on the Beeb. The quality is pretty high and with the licence freeze over the last decade they've done well to keep the standards up. In just the last year on "council telly" we've had greats like Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, Doctor Foster, Happy Valley, The Night Manager, The Fall, Line Of Duty, Apple Tree Yard, Inside Number 9, Humans, Broadchurch, Planet Earth II, Fleabag, Flowers, National Treasure, NW, The Missing, SS-GB, Mum and The A-Word - no doubt many others I've not listed or haven't seen and thats before you even look at non-terrestrial channels, Netflix or any foreign import shows.

Are there no BBC executive that could take a risk? The BBC have a careful balance to strike when giving away prizes. Not only can they not get manufacturers and retailers to donate prizes in return for TV exposure, and so must purchase all prizes from the license fund, but the BBC must also be able to demonstrate that the price paid for the prizes was justifiable vs other things it could be spent on. So the short answer, they could improve the prizes, but if they did it would provoke a lot of forum posts from people wanting to know why the license fee was being wasted.

I'm more interested in Paul citing Julian Clary as someone who gets far too many presenting gigs. His telly must be picking up tbroadcasts from the 80s and 90s 'cause I hardly ever see Clary on the box. What next? "There's far too much Max Bygraves on ITV"? "Hughie Green is never off"?

Eggheads prize goes up £1000 a day, and Pointless £250 per day. It may be "small fry", but Ant and Dec isn't all about prizes!

Do people watch Ant and Dec for prizes, or because they are "funny"? No idea, I don't watch them, but you brought up both subjects of prizes and Ant and Dec, so I'm a little lost what your responses to me mean.

Perhaps theyre on this forum and wanted to fight back against this criticism from someone too young to remember their pop career.

Arrrrrrggggghhhh you had to mention 321 didn't you Mr G, my parents loved that show religiously & even applied to be contestants, it was absolute torture for me growing up with all that singing & daft plays, i even caught em rewatching it again on Challenge recently & i was like Nooooooooooooooooooo turn it off or your both going in a nursing home, God I'll be having nightmares about Ted Rogers hand gestures for weeks, the only thing good about that show was the sexy Caroline Munro. The BBC do produce some quality dramas, i suppose Strictly could be seen as a family viewing show.

Who are Ant & Dec?

The BBC could try looking for someone, but they'd never find anyone better or with the same appeal as Ant & Dec. They are in a complete league of their own when they present - they simply just have the knack. There's a reason why Ant & Dec are national treasures and that's because they know how to create great entertainment shows. Saturday Night Takeaway, for instance, has so much variety with the way they mix things up each week by rotating the features.
The closest the BBC has come is Michael McIntyre - IMO the best comedian there is at the moment, but not as natural a presenter as Ant & Dec. His Big Show is a decent piece of light entertainment but nowhere near as good as Saturday Night Takeaway.

Its a generational thing for want of a better term an X Factor that everyone under 40 finds watchable and they do have a style of banter that successfully fronts these talent shows.

Don't know what you mean by "deal" with them. As far as I know, the BBC doesn't trade in assassination.
