Judging by the latest tweet having replies disabled, Big Finish are aware of the angry Twitter people.

Going by the wording, I'm not convinced that the release is being dropped completely. I think they've left it intentionally vague to see how things go and what Barrowman chooses to do in the aftermath of this. If it does end up being dropped completely, ignoring the fact that we'll be losing out on a Ten/Jack story, it's a shame for all the other people involved who put a lot of hard work into this release only for it to be cancelled because of one person's actions. Also, I'm surprised how much negativity to the announcement I've seen... I thought I'd see more people praising BF for this, but people on Twitter seem to be pretty mad about it... Yeah, I'd hate to be involved with BF marketing right now. If they made more of an announcement, they'd have to somehow justify working with Barrowman since 2015. They'd have to give a reason as to why this release was cancelled now, even though it's all already been recorded, and Barrowman's behaviour happened ten years ago. Equally, by doing what they've done, and quietly announcing the cancellation of this release, there are people who are angry that more of a fuss wasn't made. Then you've got the terrible situation James Goss is in, with this cancellation potentially affecting a large number of future Torchwood releases. I don't think there's any good way to get out of this situation, but I for one will continue to support Big Finish, as this issue isn't really in their hands, and they'll have people complaining and harassing them whatever they do.

I'm not that surprised - every time BF have deal with an issue like this they always annoy one sector of fandom or another. BF can't win, no matter what they do. The timing of JB's cancellation is very unlucky for BF, as was the timing of the BLM riots and The Lovecraft Invasion last year. Had both releases been scheduled a month earlier than they were they would have been released with no fuss.

Could've been worse - not hard to imagine a world where Barrowman was the companion in Dalek Universe or Torchwood Series 7 was about to drop or something.

I am confused and not really sure who I should follow or hate anymore.
I think it can be difficult if someone you are a fan of behaves in such a way, especially in this instance with JB where there is some crossover in personality between an actor & character.

Certainly with Jack being back on screen twice, about to back in Time Fractured and a rumoured part in Season 13, it's not hard to imagine a Torchwood reboot was already something at least considered at the BBC before this all kicked off. Especially with BBC3 going back to making filmed drama, the show returning to it's original home would have been a compelling launch title. Unless Barrowman's agent is Derren Brown...I don't think that'll happen now!

Yesterday everything was positive and they were getting heaps of justified praise for Chris Eccleston's triumphant return. Today, however ...
It would be over-simplifying the situation to say 'that's show-business'but as with all things, it will blow over to a large extent.

'Absent Friends', what a title for this to happen to. Fate was tempted by the name and is laughing cruelly.
I feel very sorry for BF, they had a special and much anticipated TW 50 release all ready to go and now through no fault of theirs, it's really gone. This is not the way I would wish to save £10.99.

On to hopefully positive reminder news of what's to come.. Much needed positivity too - thank you!
These titles look good, and it's always good to hear more Anthony Howell. Nice to see Matthew Sweet writing again. David K. Barnes' story sounds very interesting too!

On to hopefully positive reminder news of what's to come.. Huh. I checked the initial announcement, dated from August 2020, and I've no memory of seeing it. Oh, well, this is both exciting and completely new to me. Good to see more of (old?) Harry with the Fourth Doctor and headstrong UNIT newcomer, Naomi. I don't think we've had a tale in Calcutta since The Emerald Tiger in 2012, it'd be nice to revisit the locale again (there's something joyfully cinematic about Barnaby Edwards's scripts). Sounds as though they've got a distinctive arc planned out for her as a companion, as well. It'll be interesting to hear the dynamic between the three play out in full force. I get the impression that Harry might be playing mentor, in some respects.

Actually, in all seriousness, thanks to the news team for providing updates here. I can't imagine that it's a particularly easy read across the various sources of information. The effort to sift through it all and give us the pertinent facts -- and an important bit of sunshine -- is appreciated.

On the flip side this 'positive reminder' is regarding an individual who suffered the consequences of the cancel culture of the time in the most unfortunate way possible. Just saying...
