With 2016 marking the 20th Anniversary of Paul McGann's debut as the Eighth Doctor (and the fifteenth Anniversary of Storm Warning) I thought it would be a fun idea to discuss the possibilities for a hypothetical Anniversary Release of some sort for McGann's Doctor. (Obviously with McGann's packed schedule, and Big Finish's release dates being planned months in advance, such a release may out of the realms of possibility if it were even hypothetically being considered, and Big Finish have already rather spoiled us with exciting new releases in the next few months... ) The 1996 TV Movie may have a mixed reception amongst fans and critics alike, and failed in its intentions to lead to a new series of Who, but it helped keep the franchise alive in the wilderness years and gave us a truly brilliant Doctor in McGann (who went on to be arguably the most prolific through the books, audios and comics etc), I understand Big Finish's and/or McGann's desire to move forward with the 8th Doctor, but if a anniversary release of some sort (be it a boxset with past companions, a one of special or something else) were a possibility I think it would be a popular, and timely tribute to an excellent doctor, and I thought it would be fun to throw around a few hopes and ideas (however unlikely) if something is planned. -Please don't mistake my curiosity/interest in a anniversary release for disappointment or a sense of entitlement-I realise this certainly isn't a release we need to hear, I understand that some would rather forget about the TV Movie rather than mark it (and looking too far back into his timeline could arguably derail some of the impact of his ongoing storylines), and I wouldn't want any of the other doctors to be overshadowed. But I'm rather fonder of the TV movie than some, and curious as to whether anyone else would find it interesting if there are more surprises in store for us 8th Doctor fans to look forward to as he enters his third decade... Feel free to chime in with any thoughts or poll ideas of your own. ( I stress again this is merely a hypothetical question on my part, and something I thought could lead to a fun discussion, I'm not endorsing, hoping for or suggesting a anniversary release in anyway...though I certainly wouldn't say no if one were to happen!)

Whilst I really like the Eight's adventures, if we are to mark each anniversary of any note in Who, there would be multiples every month, so, whilst all for more stories from eight, I don't think we should be getting an anniversary story.

While I'd love to see novel and/or comic adaptations in the future, and even a one-off return to the Monthly Range, I don't believe it's necessary to mark anything for the anniversary. Aside from giving us Paul McGann, the TV Movie feels like a minor footnote in the great scheme of things.

McGann's my favourite doctor (so I'll admit part of my reasons for starting the poll were bias on my part ) but I'm inclined to agree with you (to an extent) the TV movie in itself is arguably remembered more for what it failed to do, than what it suceeded at, and that in itself dosen't necessarily mark it as a particularly interesting occasion for an anniversary release. I understand where you are coming from about the mutiple releases, but McGann's Doctor has so many gaps in his chronology I think if they were to look back to his early years, next year would be the most fitting time to do so. But as I said above, I don't necessarily think it's a good idea or one that we need to see (there's nothing inherently special about a 20th Anniversary after all), rather one that could be fun if the occasion arises...

I don't think the movie needs celebrating (I rather disliked it...) but, more McGann is always a good thing.

I didn't mean the Movie needs celebrating exactly (I find it quite enjoyable in a guilty pleasure sort of way...but it is a rather odd beast at the best of times...), I just think a Anniversary release could be a fitting tribute to McGann's Doctor and the wilderness years he helped keep alive, and provide a break of sorts from the Darker storylines 8 had had of late. It's almost cerainly a moot point anyway, I just thought it might be fun to discuss it.

I love the movie.
I'd like to see a story where this Doctor returns to his roots in San Francisco - or even Vancouver! Who doesn't want to see a Doctor Who story set in Canada?

A bonus McGann release outside of Doomco might be pretty cool. I said "box set with companions" but I'd be happy with another Mary Shelley story. Or a Last Adventure style linked narrative with four different companions, although if they include any Company of Friends characters, that would require some solid statement on the order of McGann's adventures.

I voted for 'A special box set of some sort with past companions'. It would be great to see an audio story featuring the return of Grace Holloway released.

They still don't have the rights to her as a character, or Chang Lee. But no loss really since she stayed behind. More importantly can we have Ruth Matheson and Charlie Sato meet 8?

2016 already looks very full for Eighth Doctor releases in comparison to other years.
I would like Big Finish to revisit his past and had originally hoped that they would do so before Doom Coalition came along, however release number 2017 in September 2016 still doesn't have a Doctor attached to it so there is still the slender hope that it might be an Eighth Doctor adventure or I should say adventures if past single monthly releases are anything to go by.
It sits between trilogies for Sylvester and Colin so the most likely is for it to be Peter, but I seem to recall Nick saying that they had something very special planned for that release...
Imagine another Company of Friends style collection of stories for Paul! Could they get Sheridan Smith and Ruth Bradley in just for a day each?

I want another McGann TV Movie. Maybe something set in the Time War, but it would be cool to have a one-off TV story with him set in any period of his life. It could also be cool if BF could have Grace and/or Chang Lee guest star in an episode. I could do without the Roberts Master though.

I'm almost certain well get a McGann on TV. After all, all were getting is a few "specials" so an eighth Doctor story in the mix is entirely possible, maybe setting the scene for the arc in the specials?

I'd like to think so, but sincerely doubt it. There's no confirmation yet that all we'll have next year will be specials and rumours of mcgann's return have been rife since the 50th with no sign of anything as yet. personally I'd like mcgann to play the thirteenth doctor
