Unbound Exile is awful no idea what point Briggs was trying to make when he wrote that!
Third Doc Vol 1 is worth a listen Vol 2 was better though IMO

If anyone doesn't have PHP, get it now while it's so cheap. It's worth it at full price, let alone at this sale price.

Too late regarding Unbound Exile. Already own it, though I haven't listened to it yet, I admit. I completed my Unbound collection - including Exile. I'd rather only spend £2.50 on something terrible than full price ...and judging from the comments, I've only bought it for completion . Cheers Tony

Too late regarding Unbound Exile. Already own it, though I haven't listened to it yet, I admit. If you have any taste I'd recommend against it. Comedy involving alcohol and bodily functions, guest characters no one in their right mind would willingly spend any time with, two of the most inept Time Lords ever and a strange fascination with Sainsburys.

The only story as bad as Exile is He Jests at Scars, but at least you can see what the writer was aiming for. Among the endless continuity a listener would have to swim through to get to the plot. Auld Mortality and A Storm of Angels are sheer poetry, while the team of David Warner and Nick Courtney are indomitable together.

I only had two before the sale and He Jests at Scars wasn't one of them. I'm soooooo glad I bought these in a sale instead of full price Cheers Tony

I'm also working my way through the Unbounds right now - loved the first two, jaw-dropped by 'Full Fathom Five' (and thought it was very good)... ... and now you good people are REALLY encouraging me about the ones to come ("The only story as bad as Exile is He Jests at Scars") The good news is that A) I was lucky enough to buy the set of eight secondhand & quite cheaply a while back, so any really dud entries can be regarded as practically 'free'. B) If any are THAT bad, well, CDs hung on string are a very good way to keep birds off a newly-seeded lawn repair... (Joke of course, as we all know a gap on the shelf is worse than a very bad story!) and C) 'Deadline' sounds fascinatingly meta-fictional and I've very high expectations of the two final stories. Just got to get past Exile first...

Added PHP, Auld Mortality (already have Sympathy for the Devil) and The Black Hole to the collection. And thus ends the series 10 tie-in sales, Big Finish's biggest emptying of my wallet yet.

I certainly won't be listening to it again Cheers Tony To be honest, on the whole I found the original Unbound releases very poor. Most of them are great. Sympathy for the Devil is the closest to a regular Who story, but the story is brilliant in its stellar casting. The two by Marc Platt are majestic. Full Fathom Five is claustrophobic and ruthlessly memorable.

I found that other than Sympathy for the Devil it was a very mixed bag - and I won't be listening to them again anytime soon.

I only listened to 3 so far Sympathy for the Devil, Masters of War, and Deadline and I thought they were all excellent.
I own the rest except Exile and He Jests at Scars. I am not a completist and based on reviews I don't feel I need to listen to these.

I certainly won't be listening to it again To be honest, on the whole I found the original Unbound releases very poor. I actually liked most of the Doctor Who Unbound stories. With the exception of Exile (discussed elsewhere) most of them had something of interest going for them. My favourites were the Geoffrey Bayldon and David Warner Unbounds, but Full Fathom Five was a good story with a really great ending. The whole Doctor Who Unbound series was worth picking up while it was on offer, I might not have liked all of them, but people who like their Doctor Who a wee bit different should certainly try them out... even Exile.
