I have no access to the show and hence no background but I’ve always wanted to try out the audios.I need to try liberator chronicles. But is this a better place to start ? For a general flavour of the show yes but this is almost an alternate universe version of it.

Thanks mark. You’ve given me a nice gist of it . Guess I’ll pick it up at a later point in time.

If you are thinking though of watching the original tv series though, I highly recommend it. I only finished watching yesterday and I thoroughly enjoyed it, only a couple of complete duff episodes in my opinion.

Rebellion Reborn Blake and Avon etc are very different, similar yes but different, people to TV Blake and Avon. Honestly, the best place to start is getting a mate to loan you their DVDs of series A and B. Failing that, try “Fractures” from BF.

Coming back to this thread since I've watched season 1 of the show and obviously plan to continue (loved it ) Having seen the original cast in action, wondering if I'll like the re-casting. Is post series 1 a good time to listen to this?

To be honest, apart from the general Blake’s 7 story they are very different I am talking about the main reboot here not the companion chronicle style story’s.
For me it’s like watching the old Flash Gordon series & then watching the 80’s film, they both have something to offer but not really comparable
Just jump in and have a listen, don’t compare just enjoy.

Don't Compare is a very valid point.. Listening with an open mind is important to enjoy anything

It's well worth a listen, but it is it's own thing rather than an entry point to the original series. It's a more modern and internally consistent work, more "realistic" in its world building, but quite different in feel to the sometimes over-the-top original.

Finally set aside time to start listening to these.
Rebel covers the ground of the first three episodes of the original series AND adds some additional content. The whole thing feels rather rushed, with little time to develop any individual plot point. The sound design for this episode also gives it a contemporary rather than a futuristic sound, which I don't think entirely works.
Traitor is its own story, and does a really good job. I think that if Terry Nation had these ideas, he would have put them into the first season of the series.
I'm still not wholly convinced by the casting of a couple of the actors. Part of what made the original series so great was the phenomenal job in casting all of the series regulars. Some of the actors in this reboot are up to the task, but there are two on whom I'm not (yet) sold as of the second episode.

I think the biggest problem is that they tried to shove too much into three stories and ended on a cliffhanger without knowing it would ever be resolved. I would go as far to argue that the cliffhanger they chose was the wrong one, it should have been {Spoiler} Travis sorrounding Liberator with some pursuit ships, and ending with Travis saying “fire”.

When Vila Met Gan is my favorite of this set. It's not simply down to the fact that Michael Keating plays Vila, which is obviously a positive. The script is almost a two-hander, focusing on the relationship between the characters rather than plot or events. This is what you want in a prequel for established characters.

My personal theory is that the scene in Zen: Escape Velocity where Zen is talking about having evolved and rebelled is from season 2.

B7 Media have recently posed the question on FB whether people would like a follow up to the reboot. The response hasn't been positive but beside all that don't BF have the audio rights to Blake's 7 outright now?

I decided to jump in with the current sale - a tenner for the whole series! Now to find the time to listen, of course.
