Have added a new rank for posters with 2,000 posts and changed the '*' system - please give feedback (not in this thread) I can't find the new ranking system.

You fall asleep one evening, you wake up and-- Oh, no, I've been drafted!
In all seriousness, I'm curious about the new rankings.

In all seriousness, I'm curious about the new rankings. Me too. I thought it was a demotion but it appears to be a rank above Doctor. So we each still have our Doctor ranking but are now guards as well. I wonder what comes next.

Just to reassure you all, you haven't been demoted . You have kept your Doctor status. We have taken on board comments about ranking and decided the best option is to have higher ranks rather than make Doctor the ultimate rank (if we did that you'd all have lost it lol). This is a trial, Chancellery Guard is the next rank up and if people are happy others will be introduced. Don't get too excited tho', the higher ranks will come in at "much" higher post counts, or we will run out again . By the way, this isn't an excuse to try and inflate your post count to try and get to the next level . Cheers Tony

If you do, you'll have a few (16 or so) upset people and we'll have to start all over again Cheers Tony

With the number of Doctors being appointed (three more today) I think it's the wrong way round. Chancellory Guard could be top of the yellow stars and Doctor as the blue star.
Existing Doctors could be re-ranked in order of number of posts and it could be kept as a dynamic list, with the threshold increasing when too many people become Doctor.

That sounds like a lot of work for someone, trying to keep a dynamic list up to date based on post count - more likely to swap ranks around and raise the Doctor rank much higher, but that will remove some "existing" Doctors when the threshold rises. We would still have the same problem in the future anyway, unless the Doctor rank is the topmost rank you are always going to have lots of posters reaching that level. Cheers Tony

Cheers Tony Could there be an intermediate ranking like "Renegade" or "Quadrigger"? Personally, I've always wanted to see "Scrutationary Archivist" somewhere on that list. It was the Doctor's position in the Bureau of Possible Events prior to leaving Gallifrey.

It was the Doctor's position in the Bureau of Possible Events prior to leaving Gallifrey. There can be as many ranks as you like, the problem seems to be where to put them. Any rank before Doctor means raising the Doctor threshold and that has a knock-on effect that some of our newer Doctors lose their new rank until they hit the new threshold. This would then happen again if we added another rank before Doctor, and so on. The biggest question seems to be whether Doctor should be the highest rank. If so then we have to rethink the existing threshold (and therefore most members would lose their Doctor rank). If people are happy to accept Doctor as a "middling" rank only, there is less of a problem. You might go on to better things (chancellery guard, castellan, inquisitor, etc) but still have whiskeybrewer 's table to show that you are "still" the Doctor. We are open to ideas but remember that each one will have both pros and cons (the main one being the increase of the Doctor threshold and therefore loss of rank for newest achievers). Cheers Tony

Pah! People should be able to chose their own title once they qualify with x number of posts. Why confuse the issue with all this Doctor mumbo jumbo? I also think Chancellery Guard would be below The Doctor as a rank, as The Doctor is an ex-President of Gallifrey, which is surely above a mere guard?! So whoever slotted that in should think again! Why have ranks allotted by others anyway? We should all be equal here. Instead of re-inventng the wheel, 1000 posts should be The Doctor, 2000+ should earn you the right to choose your own title.

Cheers Tony I think I'd be okay with losing the rank of Doctor if it made things easier with bolstering it to the top. There might be some wincing involved, but I could manage it. The alternative to that there would be placing something like "Guardian" or "Eternal" at the very top. I'd say "Great Old One", but that sounds like it would be a nightmare to organise and reorganise. With the Guardians at least, you have White, Black, Crystal, Red, Azure and Gold. A far smaller group, but then with a limit like the projected ten or twenty thousand I imagine it would take a while. Pah! Does the forum actually allow for such a change automatically when meeting x number of posts or would that have to be done by the moderators manually?

The mods all have unique titles under their names unrelated to their post count, surely that could be done for others?

Technically, Doctor should be either be at the same rank (or higher) than President ... and basically no-one is at that level yet . Cheers Tony
