I actually could see where Nick was coming from when explaining the need for a change. He's right, why do all the Doctors get their own ranges except for 5, 6 and 7 just because they were the ones who were there from the start? So while I'll miss the Main Range, I certainly understand why. And as long as they release a Doctor Who story every month, I'm happy. I just hope they don't all go to boxsets. That's my fear. I don't. They all get their own ranges apart from 5, 6 & 7 because somebody at BF thinks no other Doctor can be part of the Main Range! 8 was part of the Main Range and now we get these overlong pompous four box sets with him all the time that I think are just one reasonably good story stretched out to fill a set. So yeah, the Main Range didn't make sense to some people at BF because some people didn't really believe in it.
They can shove their box sets if that's the road they want to go down. I'd be happy to let my Main Range subscription lapse if monthly stories come to an end.
Well, Nick did promise that they would continue to have monthly releases, but wasn't specific about what form those releases would be in.

Agreed- I often skip the podcast completely, except if there are trailers or previews I want to hear. I sometimes find their prattling and forced jokes just too awkward... but as soon as I read „Colin“ I switched it on. Could listen to Colin all day. And the info we got was definitely worth it. Jason already said at the convention that they were re-structuring, which is fair enough because Nick is right, „Main Range“ does not make much sense anymore. As long as we still get monthly adventures- and I do not mind too much if it is the first, second, third or sixth Doctor, as long as it is a good story. Maybe they will split up some of the box sets and have the single stories as monthlies? So ALL Doctors rotate along for the monthly stories? Would also make sense since we have to face the fact that the actors are not getting any younger and we might lose someone sooner or later, as sad as that may be. I don’t recall having done any interviews, but it’s lovely to hear people could listen to me all day. Oh you terrible tease.

I'm in no hurry to see my monthly dose of Doctor Who go away but at 20 + years, it is probably time for a refresh for the entire Doctor Who portfolio and the way it is structured. Nick's point about bringing in new listeners is a valid one. Becoming more new listener friendly doesn't have to mean long time listeners get tossed to the side or ignored. This attitude that things have to stay the way they are is just, I don't know, short-sighted.

TBH when I listened to the podcast I got the impression it would be more of a cosmetic change to the branding than anything else. What struck me as more significant was the clear signal that cds are living on borrowed time.

The devil will be in the detail obviously but I find everything in box sets a tiring formula. Given the amount of box sets being released these days, if you added 5-6-7 on top, I think it's very possible both things are true - there will be monthly Who releases... in the form of box sets. As for bringing in new listeners, the more the merrier, but I'm not sure how much oil that white whale will yield when it comes to those Doctors. Classic Who is a niche. Audio dramas based thereupon is a niche of a niche and no matter what BF does that's unlikely to change. I agree with lidar2, though, it sounded to me more like a rebranding/facelift than anything substantive.

While I was tuning in and out of the podcast (it's mainly just interviews, no emails), it does confirm that Joe Kraemer is composing the music for Masterful and has started. Not too sure how I feel about that, he isn't my favourite BF composer. I would've preferred Robert Harvey or Howard Carter (after his amazing Legacy soundtrack and Diary of River Song stuff), but still.

I really enjoyed this podcast. Yes, it was low-key without Benjy, but I enjoyed the interviews. I loved Colin's panto stories. We Americans have no idea why you Brits like your panto so much.

I thought Nick was rather candid. And clearly still peeved about the emails thing.

Varity of Different licence Ranges is great... at the same time that don't sell well as DW This upsets me a bit. I absolutely love how they have built up a fair chunk of non Who licenses.. some of my faves are non Who like Survivors/Dorian Gray/Dark Shadows..
Sometimes when I feel I am overdosing a bit on too much Who and not getting the full experience I start smashing/resmashing through the non Who ranges to make myself miss them and get re enthused (nothing to do with the quality of the writing)
:-(

I read it as Nick saying there are lots of things they'd love to make, but there just isn't the market for.

That is how I understood it as well and also what Jason said at the convention. So in the next years we will be hearing less of the likes of Novel and Comic adaptions.
