Did he run out of toilet paper?
Just asking because the supermarket in my village is flat out....
U should see what's going on in Australia! There has been a couple knife fights, someone got TASERED, 2 on 1 fist fights between pensioners over toilet paper!. Funny thing is- the 2 main factories that make the toilet paper are soo full and in "advance" naturally- they have posted videos online of their warehouses chocka block over flowing with loo paper LOL..
Sheeple. Shift3 2020 mentality :-(
Well, I am ashamed to admit we are not far behind over here. Ever since we had the first confirmed infected person in my municipality this week, common sense went out of the window and we had panic buys of mainly pasta and toilet paper.... I would understand if this virus caused diarrhea, but this is bonkers. The mind boggles.

Oh, lord... I was hoping it was just us. Toilet paper and bandages seem to be the thing here. I suspect preservation through mummification? Either that or TP'ing government buildings, those are the only two explanations that make any sort of sense. And, as a demonstration of one company's sense of humour, the beer brand, Corona, have been selling free rolls with every purchase of a six-pack. Oof... *pinches bridge of nose* "No, on second thought, let's not go to Camelot. 'Tis a silly place."

I went for my weekly spa session today (I enjoy my sauna in the winter, it does wonders for my mood and my general well-being) and the spa (which is usually packed, even at 8 am in the morning) was a ghost town. I had the sauna nearly to myself. It is as if this virus enjoyed hanging out in rooms of about 80 degrees. (It does not, it is destroyed from 26 degrees upwards, this is why I cannot wait for the first heatwave in May to end this insanity. At least climate change is good for something).
But I came to wonder what all the other people were doing. Most likely sitting at home building igloos from the toilet paper they hoarded all week.

Mmn, either that or performance art ("Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair!"). The trains are the same. I remember coming back from what should have been a rush hour commute and there was no one. It kind of put into perspective how much public transport to the city here seems to be a choice rather than a strict necessity. I'm assuming they're all still working... Oh, and flu season is coming up for us. (yaaaay...) I'm expecting some true oddness to occur over that particular period. At least people have a sense of humour about it.

Water. People are buying out water in some parts of the US (haven't seen a run on things here yet, though).
The water coming out of the tap is still going to come out of the tap, you don't need to hoard water. And it's not a water borne illness.

Basically people are being very silly because they are listening to the press rather than using their intelligence. The papers know what they are doing though, using word like 'outbreak', 'surge' in their headlines meaning that silly people panic, over, basically, a posh flu.

Well, as it stands right now, it will be as if it was a SEVERE flu outbreak. Flu is a dangerous disease. The father of my colleague died of it last year. Corona is potentially also more infectious. BUT. This is nothing apocalyptic. It will not be spread via water, it does not cause diarrhea, hot temperatures destroy it. There is no reason why society and normal life should collapse over it, but somehow people acting as mindless panicked sheep and this is exactly what starts to happen tight now. I am much much more afraid about what is happening in society than I am of that virus.

Here in the UK, possibly our most poisonous newspaper is 'The Daily Mail', who love nothing more than outraging its already permanently outraged readership about everything. A few days ago, I read their headline (in the local grocery store): 'Coronovirus - cases surge by 8.7%. Not long now until ... (in big letters) The Point of No Return'. Now, what possible use can such a headline be, other than to inspire panic and fear?
Sorry to go off-topic.

We have similar sensationalism here, which is why I'm heartened that the ABC (our version of the BBC) have done their best to keep away from alarmist reporting. They did an article recently comparing and contrasting COVID-19 to the Spanish Flu, one of the deadliest worldwide epidemics in recorded history, and reminded readers about advances in immunisation, antibiotics and quarantine procedures since then. In amongst all the stirring, the NIRC has been activated to coordinate national response to a potential pandemic, AUSMAT have mobilised doctors to China and Christmas Island to handle the quarantine of travellers and the government is confident we're pandemic ready if things should go sideways. It's serious, but it's not insurmountable and steps have been taken in response to the concerns. Better still, they've actually said what the most common symptoms are: sore throat, fever, dry cough and fatigue with possible headaches, a runny nose or nasal congestion. For those of us with asthma, the process to deal with it is as it's always been. That's not nearly as frightening as the papers make it seem. Zombie plague, it is not.

Even our own BBC, long considered to be fair, balanced and un-sensationalist, is really going to town with this. Only this morning I checked the headlines on BBC News Online, and there were no less than eight separate stories focussing on the virus, each with their own subsections. Apart from doing what the government's general advice is, there is not a lot people can do, so this deluge of scares serves no purpose other than to guarantee 'hits'. I thought the BBC would be above that.

I thought the BBC would be above that. To be fair, it is a pandemic. Italy announced today that they quarantined 16 million people in the north region of the country. These actions are happening because this is more than the common cold. The CDC changed its messaging today warning the elderly and the sick that they are especially at risk. This is something to be aware of and to worry about.

This is something to be aware of and to worry about. The importance of the disease shouldn't be underestimated, I agree, but there is a big difference between alerting people to the dangers in a way that befits the responsibilities of the media - and encouraging widespread panic. The importance of the pandemic - and yes, I'm aware it's more than the common cold - deserves a little maturity in the way it is reported, and that's something I don't see a lot of.

I thought, since there is a lot of false information out there, I post this note from the WHO from today. I had this also posted on my FB wall. I think it is very important to share facts in the whole avalanche of panic and insecurity.

Interestingly BF are starting to find that more new customers are finding them through other Blogs and Review sites, hence why the main BF News is a bit hit and miss now and there's more news on Social Media. I would be seriously asking them.. If you want people to pre-order your product, best to keep the news up to date on the primary place...

Hype on Social Media is meant to be fun but its also hinted at another DW release that they don't think anyone's noticed yetRegards mark687 So that rules out the Martha boxset, right?
