Doctor Who - Main Range 227. The High Price of ParkingReleased July 2017SynopsisThe planet Dashrah is a world of exceptional beauty. Historical ruins; colourful skies; swirling sunsets… Unsurprisingly, it’s a major tourist trap. So if you want to visit Dashrah, first you’ll have to visit Parking, the artificial planetoid that Galactic Heritage built next door. Parking, as its name implies, is a spaceship park. A huge spaceship park. A huge, enormous spaceship park. When the TARDIS materialises in Parking’s Northern Hemisphere, the Doctor, Ace and Mel envisage a quick shuttle trip to the surface of Dashrah. But they’ve reckoned without the superzealous Wardens, and their robotic servitors… the sect of the Free Parkers, who wage war against the Wardens… the spontaneously combusting spaceships… and the terrifying secret that lies at the lowest of Parking’s lower levels. Written By: John Dorney Directed By: Ken Bentley CASTSylvester McCoy (The Doctor), Sophie Aldred (Ace), Bonnie Langford (Mel Bush), Gabrielle Glaister (Cowley), Hywel Morgan (Kempton/ Tribesman), Kate Duchene (Regina/ Seraphim), Leighton Pugh (Fulton), Jack Monaghan (Dunne/ Selfdrive)

Or even The Warehouse. That's the Seventh Doctor and Mel audio, not the nationwide franchise.

The High Price of Parking. That's a Season 24 name if ever I heard it. I'd be worried if it didn't have John Dorney's name on it. Also, another really splendid cover.

Oh, don't get me wrong, there's as much room for something like The Greatest Show in the Galaxy as there is Red. It's just the title sounds a lot like a Douglas Adams book. A tale of reincarnation, existential faux pas and genocidal machine men from Krikket called Life, the Universe and Everything.

Yeah, I'll take that. Oddly enough, this is the only idea I've ever had that I thought 'felt a bit Douglas Adams'. And then I realised I'd had one like that, and he had dozens every day. Proper genius.

Proper genius. Don't sell yourself short John, yeah Douglas Adams was a unique & talented writer but you are an amazing writer too my friend & have written some of my favourite Doctor Who stories over the years & thoroughly deserved your award for the phenomenal Doom Coalition 3: Absent Friends.

No one else can tell it. That's special and, best of all, it's exciting."

Part 1 is free with a link and code in this months email newsletters It's at these moments that I have to decide; do I A) Fight off temptation and wait until I can hear the whole story or B) Pretend we really are back in the classic era, enjoy the first episode and then wait to see what happens after the cliff-hanger...
The curious thing is that I've always gone for A) but having posed the question it's obvious to me that B) is the right answer, so that's what I'll do this time. For full authenticity I should try to listen to it on Saturday at 5.15 pm just after the football scores (if any, it is July.) However, I think another episode of 'Doctor Who' and another cliff-hanger might be on my mind around that time tomorrow so Sunday then! EDIT: The newsletter isn't out yet anyway so no code and no download today. Good to have advance notice though. EDIT: 3/7 Downloaded!

Episode 1: fun -with hints of something else... A bit like Season 24 because in some ways it has the 'feel' of what parts of that era tried to do - a lighter style and a strange society grown from the mundane - but it's a long way from tedious 'Paradise Towers'. The jokes are funny, the characters and situations very well written (of course) and it's a perfect Part 1 - sets up layers of story and groups of characters, hints at forces as yet 'off-stage', leaves us wanting to know more and leaves the Doctor with a serious problem... The dialogue was the highlight for me; witty and very quotable, especially between the Doctor, Ace and Mel. There were some of their lines I saw coming because they were exactly what Mel or Ace would say. Fairly sure the Doctor is up to something but as this is Seven, that's not a spoiler... Looking forward to release day.
