Well, look at Nathan. Seen the show a dozen times and loves the audios even more for the experience It's gone down a treat woth the fan-sites for the show too. If my copy hasn't arrived on Monday, I'm just going with the DLs. I don't like to do that as I like listening with higher bit-rate through my speakers but I'm not waiting any longer. If there's one area BF really could improve, it's delivery times.

Living in the UK, I normally find BF's delivery times (after dispatch) to be very good I've even had items arrive hours before they've been dispatched This is, however, the exception and took almost 2 weeks to arrive

I had heard of 'The Prisoner' but have never watched it. No reason really, it just never grabbed me (same is true of 'Dark Shadows', which I wasn't familiar with unitl BF came along - now I can't imagine life without it!). So I came into this completely new. It took a while for me to decide to get it - really, it was the enthusiasm from the promotion that tipped me over the edge. I absolutely, absolutely love it. It is a huge, strange, oppressive story, bleak in the hopelessness of its larger-than-life premise. I'll be honest and admit I've found Nick Briggs' writing unengaging a lot of the time, but here it is terrific. I find certain similarities between this and his acclaimed 'Creatures of Beauty' from way back, such is the realistic unreality of it all (if that makes sense). The cast are uniformly excellent. I have no knowledge of Patrick MaGoohan's performance, but Mark Elstob is intense and sardonic, constantly 'on the edge' but powerfully restrained throughout. His co-stars, particularly No. 2 in all guises and Helen Goldwyn's various characters, are excellent also. The music is very 1960's, evoking memories of that psychedelic, hallucigenic time, but the dialogue is laced with modern-isms, making this very much a 21st century product. So in short - I quite liked it!! I agree. I have been aware of The Prisoner for most of my adult life and I'm seen clips, but I have never seen a whole episode. I was on the fence but it had such great listener reviews that I decided to splurge. I think it's amazing. I also don't know McGoohan, but Elstob is fantastic. I think I may want to watch this now, but I don't want to mess up the experience of what I just listened to. Just from the perspective of someone who hasn't listened to the audios yet but has watched the TV series I definitely recommend. I wasn't so keen on the ending which gets too surreal for me but the rest of it is great. It's a real experience. And McGoohan is fantastic. Plus it's a classic.

Not bad. If something is back catalogue? It often sits for the best part of a week before even getting dispatched, that's more the issue.

I thought that I had zero interest in The Prisoner, but this afternoon I gave the free excerpt of the first episode a go. What a great production. The acting was great and I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it, so I went to the website to see the purchase options...
Hmmm
I didn't realise just how expensive this is!

Yes, it took me a very long time and a lot of back and forth in my head regarding whether or not I was going to get this. I am very happy that I did (download, though. The physical product was way too expensive for me here in the US)

I listened to the free extract this afternoon and I have to say it didn't really grab me. I was a big fan of The Prisoner show, but I think I'm going to give this audio a miss for now. There are other things from Big Finish that I'd rather spend my money on right now.

Obviously production, and licence costs for this production were quite expensive and this is reflected in the costs of production and resell. I wonder however whether this is also a bar that has now been set, and that worries me, with licence costs inevitably going up with all the various ranges, bar the non copyright classics stuff for example. I can foresee that this costs will increase on other current and future ranges. I think this as set a precedent now, that is my fear.

If this were a precendent, I don't think BF would have backed down for Vol. 2. Other ranges' boxsets have only cheaper in the past few years. We never used to get any for £20.

I suppose time will tell, I have noticed that other audio publishers have started to up their prices.

I don't know exactly went into the business model & price structure for this but it is worth noting that for the most part BF have held things pretty consistent price wise across most of the ranges.

to be honest, I think BF try the higher prices like benny adventures Vol 1, Hinchcliffe, etc. to test the waters at exactly how much we are willing to pay for a Box set.
they struggle to get many more people to buy, so price is the only avenue, and individual titles often have lots dropping off mid series.
I just wish they would drop the silly premium packaging, it amounts to a few notes and photos and rubbish cd storage is terrible value for money, and the download is even worse value when you don't even get proper sized Artwork.

I kind of wonder what they'll do after they sell out the Limited Editions, if they'll reprint it "standard" packaging that match what the subsequent sets will look like?

And just as a by the way since this thread got bumped, if you are in the US Amazon Marketplace has the box set available new for $35.00 plus shipping. So under 40 bucks.
