Watched the first two episodes of the Twin Peaks revival. Absolutely stunning. Lynch & Frost & co. could have simply done a victory lap and hit all the nostalgia buttons and people would have loved it, but Lynch is a true artist and he has a lot more to say. A quarter century later and this new iteration of the show is just as mysterious and challenging as the original was. It's so delightful to see TV that makes you ponder and contemplate and won't allow itself to be disposable as so much entertainment is.

I saw some people discussing the new Twin Peaks in the TV thread as this series is ripe for discussion, analysis and spoilers I am creating a thread for it.
And now I probably should stay out of this thread till I watched episode 4. Just a question does everyone have access up to episode 4? Just want to make sure no one gets inadvertently spoiled.

Where do UK viewers get to see this series? I've seen no adverts for it at all.

I've only watched up to episode 3 myself but if this thread is allowing spoilers I want to be clear what episode people can spoil up to. I will make it episode 4 for now unless someone tells me they only legally have access to 1 and 2.

Ah, this explains, I will have to wait then till it comes on another channel. It's on premium here in the US too but I figure eventually you can buy the episodes from places like Amazon Video and I-Tunes.

It will probably end up on Netflix or Amazon Prime sooner or later, I have access to both, and eventually it will hit a FTA channel.

My brain is working overtime to try to figure out what's going on, particularly with Cooper in episode 3. I'm as confused as I've ever been, and knowing Lynch's work I don't expect there will ever be solid explanations--which is exactly how I like my Twin Peaks. If the rest of the season is half as good as this, we're in for a heck of a trip.

Beyond the fact that Lynch and Frost both being fully on board meant that at least it would be fascinating, I wasn't sure what to expect from the new series. After all, 26 years is a long time to get your hopes up. But I was genuinely on the edge of my seat all the way through those first 4 episodes, with a massive grin on my face for most of those four hours - apart from when I was shuddering or gasping in horrified delight (or delighted horror), that is. There are lots of reminders of Lynch's other work, with definite dashes of Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Eraserhead among others along the way, and there are lots of things that are like nothing I've ever seen, but it's still very much Twin Peaks at heart... even if that heart is a particularly dark one at times.
It's everything I could have wanted from new Twin Peaks - gripping, horrifying, funny, sad, scary, intriguing, and baffling and beautiful, and I can't wait to see how it unfolds and what other layers are yet to be revealed.

It's terrific but anyone naively expecting Series 1-like Twin Peaks - and I've seen a few - will be very, very disappointed. This is very much the sequel to Episode 29 and Fire Walk With Me more than the earlier material. Ep 3 is just stunning. SO very happy to see so much tie in to FWWM not least mentions of Geoffries and Blue Rose cases. Indeed having a whole fresh murder in another town reminded me of the Chris Isaak opening of FWMWM quite a bit. To have more Gordon Cole and Albert (my all time favourite TP character) is such a joy. Kyle McLachlan has always been stunning as Dale but this series as the three characters he's maybe better than ever. In work the other day more than a few of us were going "Hello-OO-oo" like "Mr Jackpots" did. How amazing that we finally have Dale leave the black lodge after a quarter century. One thing, unlike say the rebooted X-Files this is in NO way newbie friendly. It's not a jumping on point. This is for fans and fans only and all the better for it. Really you need to know all of the show, the movie and the Missing Pieces to get it, and that's cool - it's a show you do get involved deeply in. The references dig deep. Also I'd suggest buying Mark Frost's Secret History Of Twin Peaks novel - it's tying in quite a bit too and there's some terrific stuff in there.

Really you need to know all of the show, the movie and the Missing Pieces to get it I finished my rewatch on the day the show came back I actually watched a fan edit of Fire Walk With Me...what someone had done was to take the original script of the film and used that as their guide to edit all of the Missing Pieces scenes into the film, where they were originally placed. It's called the 'Q2 edit', and I would highly recommend it. Much as I loved the original series, I thought the original/theatrical cut of FWWM was kind of garbage. This 'Q2 edit' is an absolute revelation, a completely different film--and I adored it every bit as much as I hated the original version. I highly, highly recommend it. Caveat: Of course, as with all fan edits, it's not strictly legal, so I will say that YOU SHOULD OWN A PURCHASED VERSION OF THE BLU SET THAT INCLUDES THE ORIGINAL FILM + THE MISSING PIECES before downloading.

I've watched the first three and while it is mysterious and visually stunning, it lacks the charm and character of Twin Peaks and the soundtrack is so bland as to be nonexistent. It just isn't fun to watch.
And the amount of gratuitous gore is just un-necessary, American Gods is kindergarten stuff in comparison.
So far so sad. Hope it gets better.
