Not to mention Mrs Polly Jackson. Hasn't Ben & Polly's marriage been confirmed before? I thought they were mentioned as such in Sarah's rundown of other companions she knew about / suspected at the end of 'Death of the Doctor', as still being together (in India?) in the 2000s? I may have been making assumptions, but for people of their backgrounds and time, it seems a reasonable assumption to make.

In The Five Companions the Fifth Doctor asks about Ben, and Polly responds that she's been seeing a lot of him, and that him meeting her parent was memorable. There's a panel in the Ninth Doctor DWM comic strip The Love Invasion showing Ben proposing to Polly.

I cheated. ('Thanks for the short hop back, Doctor, great steering for once!...' 'Hmmmph! Of course I could pilot the Ship - show some respect, young man! Come along, Ben, Polly...' TARDIS dematerialisation sound fades away...)

Its good they ignored the BBC Short Trip tale Mondas Passing They are both in failing Marriages and almost have a one night in a Hotel while their younger selves are at the Snowcap Base in 1986
There's also a BF Short Trip Book tale called I almost Destroyed the Universe looking for a Dress where An older Polly is shopping for a dress and gets transported to several points in the Doctor's Timeline, she's eventually rescued by a post-Trial 2nd Doctor but she realizes the biggest mistake of her life was not declaring her love for Ben so she manages to get her younger self to do it.

I liked how Jonathan Barnes was incredibly restrained in that he didn't say when and how Ben and Polly got married, just that their feelings for each other were what the story was all about. The obvious fanboy thing would have been to spell out where and when Ben proposed, anecdotes from the wedding and the whole backstory behind the move.

All interesting, thanks guys. I think writers of additional material over-complicate matters sometimes - for me, their original TV storylines are the clearest, easiest companion romance in the classic era, right from their first meeting in 'The War Machines'. Look at that scene where Ben is seeing Polly off in the taxi - it's obvious that Ben at least has fallen for Polly (and who could blame him) and she doesn't care that he's not 'a deb's delight' i.e. an 'eligible' posh bloke, so I reckon it was mutual right there and then. Of course, if Ben had gone back to join his ship and sailed away for months, who knows? So theirs was a marriage made in TARDIS!

In ome of the Companion Chronicles (The Forbidden Time) a contemporary Polly states that she still sees Ben occasionally.

ST:Falling
A gentle, life-affirming tale of Time and acceptance with a mystical twist, set at a very specific point near the end of the Doctor's First incarnation, plus a contemporary frame sure to bring a warm glow to fans of the era.
I enjoyed it very much; Jonathan Barnes' writing and choice of the present tense creates wonderful atmospheres - both contemporary and alien - and the characterisations are perfect. And, needless to say, Anneke Wills' performance is perfect too; a pleasure to listen to as always.
A delightful Short Trip for all fans of Polly, Ben - and The Original!

That was an interesting little tale. These monthly short trips really have replaced the classic Companion Chronicles in my mind, especially as we move into territory like this. Good stuff.
Are we supposed to know who/what the figure was, or was it spun up for this story?

Are we supposed to know who/what the figure was, or was it spun up for this story? As far as I know, created for this story - although the Doctor obviously did know, as usual! {Spoiler} It was clearly an 'angel' and I wondered if it was supposed to be one of the ancient 'army of light' that the 10th Doctor saw in the wall-paintings in 'The Satan Pit'?
