I hate swearing filters, I find them childish and annoying. I often (not always, but more often than not) choose my words carefully, I do not ever want some automated filtering program deciding what I can or cannot say or how I should say it. I'm inclined to agree. They strike me as something analogous to DRM. It's trivially easy for someone who wants to subvert them to do it, but more often they serve as inconvenience to a legitimate poster doing his best to conform to the rules as in Jasonward’s case. I don’t think it’s a huge deal and I’m certainly not going to choose this hill to die on. I suspect I'm probably typical in that I read the sticky on joining, saw the prohibition against profanity and I write my posts with that in mind. I’m a guest here, these are the standards and I’ll do my best to follow them. I think it's a credit to the culture of the board that we've gone as long as we did without even knowing we have a filter. There were some posts on the matter several months ago. Possibly in the Dark Shadows sub-forum (I only say that as I hang out there the most). Certainly when I used the word 'arse' the other week I was curious to see if it made it through the filters (it did) - as if it's fine to say in Doctor Who, we can't really object to it here.

Note the words on the filter are a lot stronger than arse. Maybe because I am not British but arse seems mild compared to the equivalent we use here. Anyways this discussion started because of the F word which to me is definitely not family friendly and you would probably not hear on Doctor Who.

Oh I don't think there's anything 'probable' about that.

No, but you definitely hear it in Torchwood so can we use it on that subforum please?
