The Sky Man. {Spoiler} Another belter. The Master sits back and plays with his companion and by the end can scarcely hide his delight at the tragedy that's occurred. Jacobi's Master is shaping up as one of the most insidious incarnations, he didn't even have to try to manipulate the situation to end up with a monumental weapon to take advantage of. Love that we don't actually hear what he did to get rid of the lynch mob, just a few distant screams...

The Heavenly Paradigm. {Spoiler} Good finale. Jacobi's Master is terrific again, wiping out his companion without a second's thought. His decision to run away from the War makes complete sense, he's just handed the Daleks an ultimate weapon with which they could win the War and he can't even turn to the Time Lords to help because it's his fault. Great set overall. Looking forward to Jacobi's Master appearing elsewhere.

The Sky Man is simply spectacular. I'm not done with it yet, but I'm about 15 minutes out from the end and I think I can see where it's going :3
edit: So, when I realized what was going on I got chills. chills. Oh god this set is so good.

Regarding 'The Sky Man' When the Master mentioned that the problem affecting the people was probably fallout from an "Infernal Device", was that supposed to be a direct reference to something that happened in the War Doctor's boxset, or just a verbal nod? For a while I had this odd notion that the Doctor may have been the one accidently responsible for the temporal decay.

Have finished the set, am on to the extras. Oh my but wasn't that just spectacular Lordy, I do hope there's more to come. He's of course going to be in the upcoming Gallifrey and UNIT sets, but, by god, there just needs to be more War Master sets.

Beneath the Viscoid was rather good and a rather good set-up for the box. Jacobi is marvelous and marvelously evil & charming. I think it is actually one of Nick's better scripts. It's a war story, which we know Nick loves as well as a base under siege story except with the added twist of it being the Master and not the Doctor. Very good start.

The Sky Man-- Was I the only one that thought Cybermen? At least at first. I mean, they have a new origin, although we have had multiple origins for different styles of Cybermen, and a different directive, but I couldn't get it out of my mind.

They were intended more as a mirror of the Daleks - people locked away in suits due to radiation, etc - and they don't replace flesh with cybernetics, but to each their own!

I did switch my thinking to Daleks as the "retribution" mantra became so constant, but my first thought was Cybermen. Sorry, Scott!

Sorry Scott deliberate emotional suppression other then a drive for revenge I definitely think they're closer to Cybermen .

That's fair enough. The emotional suppression was actually a follow-on from the suits' established functions in The Good Master... at the end of the day, it's neither Dalek or Cyberman but "something every bit as bad as those fighting the Time War" so people can see parallels with whatever!

Only heard the first one. It's pretty good....really the job is to establish this Master and his personality more than anything else. Jacobi was good. Very believably Doctor-ish in places.I like the idea that in their War incarnations the Doctor and Master kinda drifted closer together character wise so much so that much of the story could be switched with a War Doctor one. Except of course, the "Yeah....don't go thinking I'm your cuddly grandad" ending. Nice and grizzly. That theme tune though....might be my favourite BF one in years. The four-beats front and centre and then an almost 50s B-movie lie synth. Lovely. Wish it was longer.

On a side note, I never got a clear reading on what they were being called? I hear it phonetically as "ice-o's", but I'm fairly certain that's wrong

I was thinking cybermen for a while, too. The recent TV series finale left me primed to look for alternate cyberman origin stories, and Missy has a history of using them.
Sky Man was the standout episode for me, a real kick in the guts when it became clear what was happening.
