Don't get me wrong, I don't wish for them to have a flop here - I just suspect they will, as I think it is a bizarre idea with very little to make it appealing. I'd understand the idea more if it featured a quick cameo from David Tennant. I think if they'd built Novice Hame into a 10DA or something and spun this off from there then people here would seem more excited. Although, it's fair to say that this forum isn't exactly fully representative of BF's whole market, and young teens who grew up at the time or parents with children into the early new-Who stuff might really get something out of this. Hope it works out for them either way. Speaking as someone who was 8 when New Earth aired, I'm not exactly jumping for joy to hear this, but much like my initial curiosity to the Jago & Litefoot and Counter-Measures ranges when I first found Big Finish, I'm intrigued to see what they've done with it. I'm not going in with any bias, I'm just hoping for a few good stories (and given this is Big Finish, I likely won't be disappointed )

I'm going to give this a shot. As someone who started off with the New series, I would definitely be interested.

Am I the only one whose criteria for ordering an audio production doesn't factor in trailers, art work or reviews? I never judge based on trailers or art work. Reviews, at times. Not always.

I don't have any immediate interest in this (reviews may change that) but hope it still does well. Flops are rare for Big Finish and long may that continue. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish for them to have a flop here - I just suspect they will, as I think it is a bizarre idea with very little to make it appealing. I'd understand the idea more if it featured a quick cameo from David Tennant. You say it's a "bizarre idea" as if bizarre ideas are a bad thing!? These are stories about people and weirdos in the year 5 Billion. That's a wild science fiction idea that sounds fantastic to me! I don't need a trailer to help me decide, I'm very intrigued to hear more stories exploring this world created by RTD. I remember when the new series started, and I saw "The End of the World", I was blown away and I hoped all Doctor Who would be like this episode. Unfortunately it ended up being a little more Earth-bound (which is fine) but I've always been so delighted to find out more details about New Earth.

I'm sure peoples' optimism will be rewarded, in that BF simply don't do 'bad' audios. They'll be well written, acted and produced stories no doubt. It's just that for me, New (or was it New New?) Earth was a distinctly uninteresting and forgettable place, so this time my credit card is safe! (Just as well considering all the BF 'Doctor Who' goodies to come this year... I want to be able to say there was something I didn't buy! )

I love a lot of BF but some stuff has been 'bad'.

The above post brought to you by the Big Finish Creative Team! What is that supposed to mean? I also HATE that my profile says that because I'm a writer and have nothing to do with Big Finish except on a contractual basis, and even then it was for Dark Shadows only. But I'll also own it. Big surprise that people who write for Big Finish would also be excited about ideas and writing!!! If this is the negative, cynical attitude people are going to take towards me posting in this forum, I don't see the point.

DS is a range I've yet to get into, but on the 'Doctor Who' side it's one of the highlights of this forum that some of the people who create the stories we love are happy to drop in and chat with us fellow fans. It's a privilege that fans of few franchises enjoy and the more BF creatives who join us, the better it is.

I'm sure johnhurtdoctor meant his reply in a humourous manner. I'm one of the many people who love that Big Finish writers post here; this is one of the few places where we can interact a little with those behind BF's wonderful stuff. I for one really appreciate the views of yourself and others (especially from the mighty Dark Shadows range!!) and would hate to see you go.

Thanks for the kind words!
I hope I wasn't being dramatic. But sometimes it frustrates me to see this attitude that casts Big Finish in a light of just wanting to do a cash grab.
It couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone I've dealt with at Big Finish are involved because they love writing, creativity, and also love the intellectual properties they're allowed to play with. "How can we expand this? What else can we explore? Haven't you always wanted to know... What if???"
It's a labor of love. (or maybe a labour? Sorry, I'm American)
So remember there are real people putting their blood sweat and tears into these audios, and they want you to genuinely enjoy them.

All of this discussion is pushing me towards getting this, and I really can't afford it. But, apart from anything else, have you seen the cast? Adjoa Andoh, Yasmin Bannerman, Anna Hope, Toby Hadoke, Derek Griffiths (!!!), James Dreyfus (as The Most Exalted High Persian. I wonder ... ) and Julian Rhind-Tutt! Tell you what, because I know you're all interested. I'm due to have a curry tonight, which usually comes to about £20, but because of the weather, we might cancel it. If we do, I'm buying this! Deal?

Cynical, dismissive and negative is much easier for people then for them to be positive and open-minded. Anyway, it took me a little while to wrap my head around the concept but as you rightly noted earlier, this is a high concept science fiction series that allows BF to do some serious world building. I'm not sold on the narration aspect of it but I am looking forward to the series and hoping it is great.

And how are races of talking trees & cats any more bizarre than a talking raccoon or a talking tree? Oh waitaminute! Anyway, for something you have no interest in you sure do stick around this thread a bunch telling everyone what a terrible idea for a series you think this is.

They have more personality, and Guardians is a film that knows how crazy its premise is, and asks you to just go along with it. None of the Doctor Who episodes set on New Earth felt like that to me, the strange characters just felt like backdrops for the plots that drive the stories. New Earth felt more about the return of Cassandra. Gridlock felt more like a sci-fi take on traffic gridlocks.
