Wanted to read some reviews before buying, but so far this is sounding good. I’ll orobably pick it up before the preorder price disappears. Me too. I'm glad it's getting a lot of praise.

Well, I ended up ordering it and I have a lot of others to listen to, but there’s something I find appealing about the idea of this set so I took the plunge.

It'll have to be at the end of the month, though, what with limited finances and all that!

Well, that really was quite a good box set overall!!! I'll still say that I think the whole "all the animals/plants evolved into sentient beings" thing is pushing it a little far, but the arc of the set was really well done. Each story added a new dimension to the ongoing plot, and it all tied together very nicely indeed. For those unsure about this set, it's structured like a Jago & Litefoot and isn't too far away from it in tone (and also retains a similar level of humour, albeit not humour based on Victorian sensibilities). The narration, like I mentioned before, is quite present for Ep 1, very Churchill Years for Eps 2 and 3, and practically full-cast for Ep 4 (it must be at least 95% full-cast). Seriously guys, this really is worth a shot

Now I'm not so sure... We'll see, but that's a v.good recommendation.

I enjoyed the first story quite a bit. It captured some of those wild, almost stupid yet brilliant all the same RTD big concept’s and tied it in a bow with some genuinely good emotional connection. Also, as part of that strange minority who actually prefer audio drama with a bit of narration, I loved the images the narration paints.

Sometimes it is needed, sometimes it isn't. I'm not quite sure why anyone should have a problem with it, it is just another way of telling a story and often very effective

I've just finished the Behind the Scenes disc where David Richardson confirms that there are no plans for a second box set yet, though he'd like to do another one. I'd be down for a second one, no questions asked!

I just finished this set and I liked it. I was pleasantly surprised Felt a bit weird keeping track of voices being cat-people,Tree-people, bird-people, Termite-people, camel-people, a super-bear and .. have I missed anything else? I must say, the Doctor impression was really really good. Never thought I’d like him but I did

He captures the energy and enthusiasm of the Tenth Doctor which is his trademark personality trait very well. Loved it

Kieran Hodgeson has the Tenth Doctor spot-on. He even looks like David Tennant.
The concept of history not quite remembered right is a good way to make me smile (EarthWorld practically ran on this). Very RTD for Devon and Thorn to be a couple, as did Thorn sacrificing himself (like Jabe did in End of the World).
If there is a second volume I'd like to hear from races outside of New Earth. The Moxx of Balhoon for example.

I decided to purchase this in the end and found it quite enjoyable. Is it groundbreaking? No, but the world building is lovely and I quite liked the Doctor’s involvement, surprisingly; sort of like the fourth New Earth instalment of the RTD era we never got.
I can’t see a second set being released, nor do I think there’s much mileage in one, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all.

My take on Tales from New Earth is up at Cultbox. The campaign for the Solar Bear spin-off begins here!
