Seeing all the positive reviews for this, I finally caved and bought this one. I'll get around to listening to this after I'm done with The Churchill Years Volume 02.

I’m listening slowly, about an episode a week to spread it out but I really enjoy it. I, however think I’d quite like a second volume. I’m a little sad that after an episode and a half (I’m halfway through episode three) it’ll all be over. It’s such a fanciful fun world I want to spend more time on New Earth

OK, finished it and really liked the first three stories a lot and felt the fourth wasn’t quite as good. Lots of running around but I wasn’t feeling the locale, which was my favorite part of the other three (lack of narration may have added to that, I loved the painted pictures of New Earth the narration gave). I’d still be happy for another series as 3 out of 4 great and one decent is a good ratio.

Just finishing the last story. Overall I as quite pleased with the set. After the first story I was quite surprised as to how much The Doctor was in the remaining three stories. I hadn't expected as much of his involvement. That was a pleasant surprise.

I just finished listening to this box set and enjoyed it quite a lot. Good stories and I enjoyed the character of Devon as played by Kieran Hodgson.
I'm amused to see all the praise for Kieran Hodgson's Tenth Doctor voice, and here's why: When he hits it right, he's quite good, but he doesn't always hit it right.
And this is kind of a joke on me, too: I'd forgotten about all the discussion in previous pages of this thread about the Tenth Doctor being in the cover image for the box set and why was he there when David Tennant clearly wasn't going to be in the set. In fact, I forgot that the Doctor would be in these stories at all. So when I heard what was supposed to be an "impression" of the Doctor, I was trying to figure out which one. And to be honest, it wavered between Nine and Ten, with at least one phrase that sounded almost exactly like Eleven. It wasn't till he used the phrase "allons y" that I remembered the discussion about the Tenth Doctor. So my verdict is that Kieran Hodgson is close but not always there. And my theory for why others thought his Tenth Doctor impression was spot on? Well, you hear what you expect to hear, right?
In any case, it was a very enjoyable box set, and I'd definitely be up for a Tales of New Earth 2.

I loved the New Earth episodes on TV and this didn’t disappoint. Devon and Hame were great. Some of the guest voices (the duke and Xyllum tree guy) were amazing. The third story I had a bit of a quibble with because I just didn’t like the solar bear /polar bear naming and frequent mention of unseen penguins, I really wish it had just been the bird people. Also I was having problems mentally picturing the bird people (yes a failing of my imagination). I would love and would buy a second box set.

Finally finished this set. I thought this was a pleasant surprise - not a single story I didn't enjoy. This set really highlights all the amazing parts of Russell T. Davies' era without really bringing in any of the bad. I liked the world-building in these stories and especially the music. The performances were pretty good, too. I have to say, every time I hear James Dreyfus after The First Doctor Adventures, I keep expecting his characters to reveal themselves to be the Master - he really does have a magnificent villainous voice! My favorite character of the set had to be Oscar - I just find the idea behind the character to be so delightfully silly. Kieran Hodgson's narration/impression of the Tenth Doctor was fine. I don't think it's quite as uncanny as Dudman's, listening to the Tenth Doctor Chronicles trailer again, but he has the inflections and verbal ticks down perfectly.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with how this turned out.

This was a rare BF miss, for me. Almost immediately after I finished each episode, I noticed that I could recall nearly nothing about what had happened in the last hour, which I suppose is pretty much the textbook definition of "forgettable." I didn't find it actively bad in any way, just really didn't hold my interest. I am glad to see so many of you enjoyed it though. It's nice to know that it's just my opinion and that BF haven't made a turkey

Thanks for the kind words! I hope I wasn't being dramatic. But sometimes it frustrates me to see this attitude that casts Big Finish in a light of just wanting to do a cash grab. It couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone I've dealt with at Big Finish are involved because they love writing, creativity, and also love the intellectual properties they're allowed to play with. "How can we expand this? What else can we explore? Haven't you always wanted to know... What if???" It's a labor of love. (or maybe a labour? Sorry, I'm American) So remember there are real people putting their blood sweat and tears into these audios, and they want you to genuinely enjoy them. Thank you. It's always good to hear the perspective of someone from the inside. That's the feeling I've always gotten. And due to the massive sale I'll possibly hear some of your DS works. I just finished the full cast audio season 1 and discovered Dark Shadows is on Amazon prime(all 1000+ free) I'm really surprised how good it is. 1960s US telly had a lot of great comic properties but considering the show started as a soap opera I had low expectations and I'm enjoying the old black and whites almost as much as the audios. Back on topic I got the set as part of the War Master bundle and wow is it imaginative and fascinating. Devon being a new human... is the only character even vlose to human in the series. I found my imagination working double time and the concepts were really farscape level scifi for the most part which we don't see anything like that on telly that much. Honestly the only recent thing I can think of is The Clone Wars tv series in re ards to alien protagonists. And just like a lot of Big Finish is not hesitant to remind us that someone like Nyssa(for example) has no familiarity with Earth at all they bring up aspects of Devons life and how he views the world and his heritage. Devon's people have a lot of issue with the catfolk because of where they are from and what I liked about the series most was how utterly alien it all felt. Honestly it reminds me of a lot of the Benny series and especially the box sets where Benny's tenuous connection to earth is not held by any of her companions. Also it was really wonderful to have a gay main character. My favourite is te solar bear though.

Enjoyed it alright.
Duke of Brooklyn's accent put me in mind of Minuet in Hell!
That aside, all good. Worth getting but wouldn't make it a priority. Wait for a sale.

I admit I wasn't that enthused by the idea of 'Tales of New Earth' when it was first announced last year. The idea of a boxset based on just a couple of episodes from RTD's era just didn't appeal at all. But since then I've almost changed my mind. I'm almost sold on the concept. Because it occurred to me that Big Finish have a rather good track record when it comes to creating something from very little. As an example (or two)...They took a couple of guest characters from a 1977 Doctor Who story and spun them into thirteen successful boxsets plus assorted appearances; a trio of guest characters from a 1988 Doctor Who story and spun them into half a dozen boxsets; spun four boxsets out of John Hurt's one off appearance in the 50th anniversary; breathed new life into old TV shows from the 1970's; put a whole new spin on a 60's cult classic that doesn't insult the memory of the original and spawned (and hopefully will continue to do so) countless new stories from an American gothic horror soap opera that I'd never even heard about! Then there is the whole concept of world building. 'New Earth' is an almost blank canvas. An entire world for the storytellers to play in and a miniscule amount of established continuity to deal with. If Big Finish do this right and if the writers have been given a mandate that 'anything goes' then the possibilities are limitless. If Big Finish do this right they could easily dip into a number of different genres (again..loads of possibilities) to successfully tell their stories. If Big Finish do this right 'New Earth' could potentially cut itself free from the tenth Doctor's apron strings and create it's own continuity. IF they do this right. Time (and a leap of faith on my part) will at least answer that. Hmmm...over three years later and it's probably time I took that leap of faith..

Up to you, of course, it's your money. Just to say I regret the spend, I barely made it through the first story. I didn't really rate the TV episode either. Most of the NuWho stories have failed to register in my memory banks, frankly, apart from the actual Doctors...

Haven't listened yet but I'm keeping an open mind when I do - after all, you know what they say about one person's trash being another person's treasure... 😊
