I thought since Big Finish are doing Hamlet with Alexander Vlahos and now King Lear with David Warner, Shakespeare could very well do with a thread. My first question to springboard it is this. What play would you adapt next if you were in Big Finish's spot and who would you cast. One parameter. 1. Try to keep it realistic casting. While it would have been lovely to have John Hurt to feature that sadly can't happen. Have Fun!

My Plan would be the following
Macbeth Derek Jacobi as Macbeth(Able to play both the good and the bad guy at the drop of a penny) Katy Manning as Lady Macbeth(A role for Katy Manning to really showcase her skills as an actress) Nicholas Briggs as Banquo(I don't know, but it feels like a perfect casting) Mark Gatiss/Sam Kisgart as Duncan, King of Scotland(Smooth, silky voice that is perfect for a villain and against Derek Jacobi no less) The Three Witches/Fates as played by India Fisher, Sophie Aldred and Sarah Sutton(Three lovely ladies playing a role a bit different than usual, but more than capable) Other roles are yet to be cast

I'd love BF to do The Tempest. I don't know why but I had Paul McGann in mind for Prospero, I know he probably wouldn't due to timing as he's only really free to do Doctor Who for Big Finish as far as I know, but I think he'd be great

All his other plays are based on what were pre-existing narratives at the time.

I'd favour Louise Jameson as Lady Macbeth, she's the stronger dramatic actress. Jacobi has already played Macbeth for the RSC so may not want to again.
Since they have done two tragedies it would be interesting for them to take on one of the comedies. Katy Manning would be fun as Beatrice in Much Ado.

I'd love for them to do Julius Caesar. Not sure who I'd cast though. I don't think that far ahead.

I'd also like to hear their 'Much Ado About Nothing' and this would be my fantasy cast of BF regulars: Beatrice : Louise Jameson Benedick : Colin Baker (I would love to hear their endless bantering wordplay / 'battle of the sexes'!) Leonato, Duke of Messina : Peter Davison Pedro, Prince of Aragon : Alex Macqueen (Two noble statesmen : the first a peaceful landowner, the second a warrior prince.) Claudio, Pedro's junior officer : James Joyce Hero, Leonato's daughter : Sarah Sutton (Naive young lovers - yes, Hero is a girl, with a curious name!) Don John, Prince Pedro's illegitimate brother : Alex Macqueen (Yes, again - it would be great to hear him playing effectively the same brother twice. Two sons of the same father but so very different, stemming from the accident of their births that made one a wealthy prince and the other a resentful dependent - and a villain.) Borachio, his scheming henchman : Mark Strickson (Played as Turlough if he had really gone bad; no scheme too evil.) Dogberry : Frazer Hines (The constable, played for comedy as broad as you like.) The Friar : Sylvester McCoy (A smaller role but with presence and it's his scheme which comes out on top...)

I'd choose Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet next, although I also love Julius Caesar, The Tempest and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Casting--I'm like Kim! No idea....I can only think as far as my favorite plays! Alexander Vlahos in EVERYTHING, though. And Matthew Waterhouse.

The Scottish play is the next obvious choice if BF choose to continue recording Shakespeare's tragedies.
Oh goodness, can you imagine Capaldi, Tennant, and McCoy all rolling their rrrr's at each other? It's unlikely that would happen, but fun to imagine. If it doesn't happen at Big Finish, then it needs to happen at a Con.

Have I imagined this but I thought nick said they are not doing anymore (for now at least) as it’s a crowded market an not sold well.

Great news! I'd got that the wrong way round and thought "No more BF Shakespeare. " So can I also vote that we have Mac the Scottish play next please? I too can think of one or two Scottish actors who work with BF...

Maybe people would get bored of the succession of one after the other, but I still think it might not be a bad idea to do "Richard II", "Henry IV Part One", "Henry IV Part Two", "Henry V" and "The Merry Wives of Windsor". Hell, BF could even adapt or republish the various Falstaff spinoffs from the 18th and 19th centuries (a play, in two versions, by William Kenrick; and novels by James White, Robert Barnabus Brough A. M. F. Randolph).

Glad to hear Lear did well – I loved it and would like to see a lot more BF Classics.
