Went to an op shop the other day and picked up self-titled album of The Presidents of the United States of America. I'd always intended to get it when it came out but never got around to it as I was finishing up at Uni at that time.
It's both of its time and a little outside it. As I was listening to it I was trying to classify it and the best I came up with was 'novelty rock'!!!!
I only really started to get into Bowie’s discography a year or two ago - still haven’t listened to much after his 70s period - but this album has quickly become one of my favorites. It gets better and better each time I come back to it and it’s just crammed full of amazing songs - Changes, Oh! You Pretty Things, Life On Mars?, Quicksand... And then he goes and puts out even more phenomenal albums later!
I’m so sad I never had the chance to fully appreciate Bowie’s music while he was still alive, but I’m grateful I still have all this amazing material left to explore.
