I got some nice new headphones for the big day, and the first thing I decided to listen to was... Abby Road. For various reasons I won't get into here, I'm not much of a music person. I'd listened to Abby Road before. I didn't really think much of it. But now? I get it. With the headphones the clarity of the sound is so much better, so much richer, than what I'd had before... I can clearly see why The Beatles are so highly regarded. Many of the songs have these wonderful layers that really pop with some decent bass, and some really cool stereo effects that are just insane with headphones. I just happened to stumble upon the Final Fantasy Piano Opera album on itunes while I was wandering around on youtube listening to the Piano releases of songs from the various games./ I absolutely adore much of the Final Fantasy music and hearing it performed on the piano can bring such depth to the songs. Looking forward to hearing this album. Ooh, I need to listen to this ASAP. The one piece of music I've probably listened to more than any other in my whole life is probably To Zanarkand.Zanarkand is one of my favourite pieces from FF X, the piano rendition is excellent, and I'd recommend checking out the Distant Worlds version of it as well, both add so much to the song.

Just picked up Distant Worlds 2. It is lovely. And a bunch of great tracks, too! I will never not adore Terra's Theme. Oh, god, and A Place to Call Home. And Suteki da ne. The To Zanarkand track is pretty fantastic, too, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that there's so little piano. But instead there's a lot of violin, which is also very, very, very nice. Very tempted to make a Final Fantasy thread so we can just gush about the music.

Been overhauling and expanding my digital music collection after discovering MusicBee. Anyone else use this? Seems like it might be handy to organize Big Finish stuff, too, though I've not yet found out if it's possible to organize "audiobooks" into "albums" (which would be a handy way to organize ranges).
A good chunk of that has coincided with me listening to some old favorites and branching out to discover new ones. Not really sure what the proper genre tags are (maybe some of y'all are more familiar) but I've really been enjoying classic soul/R&B/jazz from like the 1950s and 1960s. Current favorite is the Ella and Louis album, along with the follow-up, Ella and Louis Again, which are a bunch of duets with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Two wildly different, vastly talented singers... paired together their skill seems to increase exponentially.
The equation ain't E+L, it's ExL.
Anyway, if y'all haven't already, I highly recommend giving it a listen.

I believe whiskeybrewer and Timelord007 will appreciate this.. Tonight I will be seeing Geoff Tate (ex Queensryche singer) perform the "Rage For Order" and "Empire" albums. I saw the set list for the Melbourne & Sydney shows, 24 songs all up. Looking forward to seeing/hearing him hit those high C notes (Mariah Carey level).
