David Bowie - 1. Outside.
Back in 1995, David Bowie released Outside, the first time had worked with Brian Eno since 1979's Lodger. It was planned to be the first of five albums, released annually, each exploring similar themes through the eyes of differing characters, all 'played' by Bowie. It was culminate in the 2000.
Typically of Bowie's unstructured brilliance, these plans ultimately came to nothing and the project was abandonded before work on the follow-up 2. Contamination begun. So all we have is Outside, an artsy, surreal, violent, unique slice of electronic mayhem. Absolutely, eye-wateringly brilliant, if brought - for me - David Bowie back to 'the top' after over a decade in the 80s wilderness and proved once again that when he was on form, no-one ever came close.

Fairport Convention - Shuffle and Go. The new album by my favourite band and its fab. Hello again.
Fairport are a legend, frisby78 I'll have to give their new album a listen. I'm afraid I'm a big Steeleye Span fan. My parents had Parcel of Rogues and Now We Are Six which they recorded from the LPs to cassette to play in the car on long journeys to Cornwall. Maddy Prior's distinctive voice and their lively arrangements of folk classics are some of my earliest musical memories. I love folk music it was the pop music of the people and it is great that it is still cherished and performed. Bands like Fairport and Steeleye brought it to a new audience in the Late Sixties and in the Seventies.
My favourites when I was young were Misty, Moisty Morning, Black Jack Davy which my Mum had on a 45 single, Two Magicians, Parcel of Rogues. When I was older I bought a best of collection on cassette which I played to death that included King Henry, Alison Gross and Seven Hundred Elves.
I also love The Unthanks album Here's the Tender Coming, a haunting album which blends the voices of Rachel and Becky Unthank with the talented musicians in the band. I also enjoyed Mount the Air.
I try and listen to the BBC Radio 2 Folk programme with Mark Radcliffe which has a plethora of songs from artists performing modern and tradional styles

Hello again.
I have heard of the Dodgy B'stards album but have not listened to it yet. I really liked their Wintersmith concept album written in collaboration with Terry Pratchett. It features songs about the story of Tiffany Aching, the Wintersmith and the wonderful Wee Free Men. An interesting addition to the Steeleye discography.
