Interestingly, I think Constance's line as scripted is "And my Flip!" but Miranda made the very sensible decision on the day to change it to "And my Philippa!" Great call, I think, softens it.

Doctor Who at it's very best but you only give it a 90% rating Timelord? You're harsh I thought it was absolutely terrific - best of the year. After Quicksilver last year that's 2 years in a row my fave BF release has been a MR with Colin, Constance and Flip. I was a bit worried we were going Logan's Run here but that was subverted in such a lovely way that really examined the role of the elderly in society and parenthood in general. It was high concept without ever becoming jargon-led and convoluted. Having 3 distinct companions age wise to fit into this society was perfect. Wouldn't work with, say, Davison's TARDIS where they'd all be in the entitled Millenial zone Quite touching too, particularly when Constance sees Flip in danger and calls her "My Phillipa"....two trilogies and I totally buy these two as solid if completely oddball, besties. Just absolutely lovely. Really need to say though how wonderful it is to have Mark Heap in Who and, of course, the return of Sheila Reid, the national treasure is always welcome back. Lol, ok 9.5/10

Loved that one. Twists, turns, and then some.

Extended extras in download accounts Is that for subscribers only? That's right, along with the pdf script. March, June, September and December Main Range releases also include a Short Trip reading for subscribers.

Loved, loved, LOVED this story. Utterly wonderful in every way.
My only thought is, with the military subplot and some dialogue in Ep 4, I was almost surprised it wasn't the War Lords!

I've only finished the first disc, but I am quite interested in knowing if in the interviews or elsewhere anyone mentions Old Man's War by John Scalzi (published in 2005). Just an excerpt from the wikipedia description: "John Perry, a 75-year-old retired advertising writer, joins the Colonial Defense Forces who protect human interplanetary colonists. Volunteers sign letters of intent and provide DNA samples at age 65." It is a very good book and due to its success was the first in a series. The book was just optioned by Netflix for a film.

Finished it on the way in to work today. Need to listen to the extended extras sometime. It went off in more unexpected directions in the final two parts. I did not suspect that Formica was just an "experiment." Really evil there. I really did take great delight to Flip's excitement in chasing after The Middleman at the end. I hope we hear more about the corporation that was running all of this in a future story. I think they got off too easy.

,I quite loved this one. It felt like the work of a writer who was really going for it! I think it was good enough to be an episode of the show or even a straight sci-fi movie. In that regard I thought it was like Human Resources - where great ideas abounded, there was some degree of thematic depth, the character work felt contemporary (or solidly classic in Constance's case) and the pacing just kept moving from revelation to revelation at a good rate.
Also, had only first heard Constance in the last release and Behemoth gave me very little impression of her - but here she's great and I thought she and Flip made a great team. I'm well behind on my main range, but from what I heard here this could be my favorite MR team since Ace and Hex.

I enjoyed this release. The twist early was nicely handled and a truly horrific subversion. And the reveal was VERY dark (and that it's more systematic is truly chilling). Pulling off the characterisation in these stories can be difficult, but Chris Chapman handles these characters of with care, not turning them into voice pieces and fully reliased characters who embody their existence.

Well, I'm excited! (biased) Just listened to this last week. Great writing, Chris. Interesting concept, letting the young enjoy themselves and the old fight the battles. But when you find out what it's really for... Really enjoyed listening to this story.

This was terrific, I really enjoyed it, although for some bizarre reason by disc four the old lady was starting to grind on my nerves.

Hmmm. Just finished listening to this. I like how the story plays out, I like the twists, and I like that it does not go into the directions you first think it would. Colin Baker is amazing as always. But still, the ending and reveal was a bit of a let down for me. And another thing.... I have not listened to many audios featuring Flip so far, and she did not strike me as very annoying... BUT... I found her pretty annoying in this one, with her attitute and "modern chick" talk. Really put me off (this might also be one of the reasons I do not like Lucie and Rose). Not my cup of tea I am afraid.

Flip is a character like Lucie you either Love or dislike but very much a modern day character that’s why I like her having the contrast with Constance,Much as if my grandmothers were reacting to my great nieces nowadays (alas they have passed on).Flip though I do enjoy and enjoy her very much in Static and Wirrn Isle. This story I would need to relisten to as it’s one I have to be honest I heard once and though mmmm okay.

maybe one of the big problems I have with these "modern chicks" is that I am quite different and I on occasion was bullied by people talking and behaving like that.
They might also remind me of some of the more annoying students I had to teach in New Zealand (actually, this might be my main issue). Nah, give me a character like Liv or Charley instead and I will be happy. I am also not having any issues with Constance. But today I just found Flip really annoying.
As I said, the story was quite alright, it was nothing to sweep me off my feet, but it was nice for a change and did play around with the listeners expectations a bit.
