I got to hear ARAO as soon as it was finished. And there was the teaser at the end. And then no one seemed to comment on that after release. I found myself wondering if it hadn't been put on the final edit for the CD. The one about David and Amy? That was stupendous but frankly, I'm speechless. I really want to cheer about it from the rooftops but it's Collinsport and nobody lives happily ever after (and besides, I've heard Return to Collinwood and I don't think Stephanie is in that one). Also I hope the kids take to David okay after Bloodlust, could have been sort of a bumpy start there.

I can honestly say that trailer has my first Bloodline-related piece of dialogue.
Amy's "David? I thought you'd never ask" was suggested by me from the back of the studio when it was decided the original line was a bit too meek and submissive.
Last thing recorded during the Deliver Us from Evil sessions, I think.
So there you go. Boring production gossip. It's what you stay here for.

The teaser was brilliant! Can't believe I didn't mention it--maybe it slipped my mind between the first listen and my first post. Of course, now it's old hat because we've heard it again on the podcast...but yeah, such a cool (and entirely unexpected) teaser for Bloodline! And at the time, it was even better because no formal announcement had been made yet for future DS releases! So, it carried with it the promise of more to come, and a great continuation of the events of Tainted Love!
Loved it! Thanks for bringing it up again!

I loved the little teaser. It reminded me of the little teasers we had before The Crimson Pearl was released. Certainly sets things up nicely, though I wish there was something on the BF website. You can imagine Bloodlust fans who will follow up with Bloodline, but might not have listened to the 6 smaller cast audios.
Part of me wants them to continue with their loyalties to Return to Collinwood, but part of me is willing to let Big Finish do what they want to and have RtC go to parallel time. It's a great story, but has a lot of loose strings that either BF should tie up or let it be something for only the conventions.

I can honestly say that trailer has my first Bloodline-related piece of dialogue. I wish we were hearing more of your Dark Shadows work than that but I suppose it will have to suffice for the moment. I can honestly say that it's my favorite line in Bloodline thus far.

I think I'm going to be really impressed with Bloodline if the authors even manage to keep the wedding reception from becoming unbelievably awkward.
Quentin: Roger! Elizabeth! Come here, there's someone I'd like to introduce you to... Say hello to our cousin Barnabas from England! Roger: Another one? Good greif! How many of them are there? Barnabas: Er, well, all of the male Collinses in England are named Barnabas... it's sort of a family tradition. Julia: (thinks) I can't believe he just said that Quentin: (thinks) I can't believe he just said that

I am still wowed by this audio, and I think I'd hold it in equal esteem with Cody's other story, The Flip Side, if the later didn't have my Favorite Dark Shadows Thing Ever, which is Parallel Time - that's what really caught my attention to the show as a kid even more than vampires and werewolves.
Factor that in and I like Cody's second Dark Shadows audio story just as much as the first. That's a remarkable feat in itself to match such a classic, but I also think Cody really also has a pretty amazing penchant for the emotional soap opera part, just as much as for ingenious stories.
I can only think of three Dark Shadows audios that have literally put me on the verge of tears - one is Carriage of the Damned due to Sabrina's re-affirmation of life, and the other two are the powerful, moving conversations at the closings at the end of both of Cody's stories.
I gather from the podcasts and the story credits that Joe likes to have diverse authorship for the DS audios and it's probably hard to disagree with the idea as well as it's demonstrably worked out for the range, but I'm really hoping exceptions can be made for Cody and Rob. They are just too good for us to not have more stories from them.

More on And Red All Over... when I've relistened, but Sabrina's speech at the end of The Happier Dead is very moving too. And several points in the wind-down/after the storm at the end of Bloodlust.

...And Red All Over...
Cody did such an exceptional job with this audio. His love for the earlier episodes of Dark Shadows works perfectly here, tying in all sorts of details about the early, Mitch Ryan Burke Devlin (with a few of the better parts of the Anthony George "Fuke Devlin" as some of his non-fans like to call the replacement- poor guy). Add in the delicate handling of Maggie Evan's exposure to the paranormal after everything that happened, a bit about Joe Haskell that made me very sentimental, and even the appearance of a missing pen and it was a wonderful audio. Some of these stories can feel so short. This one seem to cover quite the adventure, despite it being on the shorter even of the Dark Shadows audio times. Plus with 50 audios under the belt, this one left off with a nice sense of more things to come while giving a solid ending to this story.
Like BarnabasLive says, I appreciate Joe's efforts to bring in new authors to keep the stories imaginative, but I would love an exception to the rule for Cody. Perhaps he can at least do some editing for the audios and sneak in some of his many detailed Dark Shadows references for this year's audios.

I don't really have a problem with George's portrayal of Burke / Furke but Ryan is the original and best for me.
I love this story, and I do hope Cody gets a return at some point.
The phone call with Joe Haskell makes me well up every time. Just hearing his voice on a BF audio really hit me.

A great homage to the early pre-Barnabas era, with the icing on the cake being the ambiguity of the nature of the Ink. There's plenty of evidence to support that they are supernatural, but just as much evidence that they are not. Amazing performances from KLS and Mitch Ryan, and I hope that the mentions of Victoria mean she'll pop up in a future audio. It's great that Maggie wasn't denied her development from the end of Bloodlust.
Kudos to whoever went through the episodes with Joe Haskell and pieced together that short conversation at the end from various voice clips. That conversation at the end kind of mirrors the one Carolyn has with her mother at the end of The Flip Side, only then we only got Carolyn's side of the conversation.

Love this story! Such a wonderful tribute to the early days...and it's even black and white! (Albeit, red all over.).
I'm glad Maggie's condition at the end of Bloodlust is maintained here. It's really the only way she could go on, short of another stay at Windcliff. Joe's appearance is a tear jerker, and as fun as Julia's in CoS.
Yes, I agree! More from Cody Schell! Thankfully, we already know we're getting more from Rob!

You are all so kind. I definitely have no shortage of ideas, which I throw at Joe like spaghetti onto the wall. For the time being I just volunteer to read through what the British boys are writing and recommend American flourishes. Kudos to whoever went through the episodes with Joe Haskell and pieced together that short conversation at the end from various voice clips. That conversation at the end kind of mirrors the one Carolyn has with her mother at the end of The Flip Side, only then we only got Carolyn's side of the conversation. The Joe Haskell research had many of us watching countless episodes, writing down dialog with timing notations. But ultimately it was David Darlington who put it together so magnificently. It was scripted to be a one sided conversation if it had to be. I'm so glad it wasn't. The phone conversation in the Flip Side has a double meaning for me, because while writing it, I was so saddened that so many actors from the original show could no longer be in the audios. What Carolyn says to Elizabeth is a daughter talking to a mother, but it also expresses what I think we all, as fans, feel about the loss of Joan Bennett (And Louis Edmonds and more). We miss her voice. Her face. And hearing a recording of her in that scene would have undercut that feeling of loss. Or as they say in Brazil, saudade.Speaking of Brazil, or Burke anyway, who can spot the Star Trek easter egg in ARAO? Considering KLS and Mitch Ryan were the only two Dark Shadows actors to appear in Star Trek the Next Generation, how could I not pay homage to this in some way? -C

I don't really have a problem with George's portrayal of Burke / Furke but Ryan is the original and best for me. I remember actually booing FakeBurke at one point. Proper out loud and everything. (I talk to the TV - I am odd.) There was a scene where FakeBurke had to have problems with the payphone in The Blue Whale. When it didn't work, FakeBurke turned round and put his hands on his hips - which seemed the least BurkeDevlin thing one could do. BurkeDevlin would have pulled the phone out the wall and glowered at whoever complained, not mince off disappointed at the loss of a few coins.

I haven't had a chance to relisten to this again this week, I've been doing a lot of reading for various reasons.
One of the things I remember REALLY liking about this one is the idea that BurkeDevlin called Collinwood sometime after the crash and the poor bastard got answered by Roger, who revelled in telling him Vicki was now with Jeff Clark. So all that time, Roger knew BurkeDevlin was alive - and never told anyone. I bet Roger was delighted to get the last word. If Cassandra was still around then, I bet she got a special night that night...

That phone call is heartbreaking and yet optimistic too. That one being one-sided definitely works. And having Joe in ARAO works too. I have over the last few weeks developed a deep-rooted hatred of writing phone-calls so fair play for making both work! Sadly I wouldn't spot a Star Trek reference if it bit me on the arse so you may have to elaborate...
