I absolutely love this story, and it is easily the best to be written by Barnaby Edwards. The writing is superb, the colorful cast of characters bringing the world to life. While some of the reveals are a bit obvious, the story is steeped in classic literature along with the Indiana Jones-esque plot. All four main character get strong material and it's easily the best handling of this TARDIS team in terms of giving everyone something to do. You can hear the desperation in the Doctor's voice at the start of episode three.
The music and sound design by Howard Carter deserve applause. I'm currently on holiday in India, and the streets in this audio sound absolutely authentic. The music suite is a personal favorite, being very evocative of India. A treat for the ears.
Can we please have more stories written and directed by Barnaby Edwards, with music and sound design by Howard Carter? Barnaby is brilliant at casting amazing talent, and there's never any sense of actors putting on a dodgy accent.

Himself and Howard Carter are a great team, they compliment each other so well. So more Doctor Who stories from them would be a joy to listen to... and if they were anywhere near as good as The Emerald Tiger then we'd be in for a treat, as that was a rollicking adventure that just came to life in your mind as you listened to it.

It's easily one of my favorite Fifth Doctor stories. That cliffhanger in Part 2 is still pretty shocking even if {Spoiler} you know Tegan survives. Can you just imagine how people might have reacted if this had been an actual TV story (ignoring the fact that the show probably wouldn't have had the budget for this story)? Sarah Sutton and Peter Davison's performances in the beginning of Part 3 really sells you on it, too.

Did listen to this a few weeks ago. Although I am not the biggest fan of the 5th Doctor, and hardly have any of his audios, I really enjoyed this one. It has mystery, action, a little bit of spookyness and a great adventure story vibe which I love.

One trap this story doesn't fall into is the origin of the phenomenon. Normally stories are fine at maintaining the mystery, with the explanation being underwhelming or taking away from the tension on relistens. Not here. The hypothesis of the cause of the emerald tiger comes in naturally, isn't overly technobabbly (only Homer Simpson would need "dynamite the crystal" spelled out for him, probably he'd fail to understand "chuck boom stick at shiny thing") and contributes to the resolution of the story without taking anything away from the effect we've been hearing all story (I'd say seeing, but it's an audio drama except for the cover and the booklet artwork).
