London 1910 An end of an era.
Two mourners independently travel to the capital to pay their last respects at the funeral of a great man, unaware of where this journey will take them.
For it is time that a new pair of infernal investigators come forth.

Regardless if Big Finish decide to do anything as a resolution to Jago & Litefoot I was wondering if they could continue their legacy into the 20th Century with a different Jago & Litefoot?
We have already been introduced to Henry Gordon Jago junior. Now in 1910 he may be a little older, but still a heroic charmer, if a little fool hardy and gullible.
As a contrast Miss Georgina Litefoot is level headed and very well read. Knowledgeable about a vast range of subjects, but is not altogether worldly wise. Named after her uncle, having kept her mother's maiden name (a backstory to revisit) she was bought up in the countryside and now in her twenties this is her first foray away from home.
Their meeting would be a contrivance. An unscrupulous millionaire is in need of assistance from infernal investigators and has heard rumour of Jago & Litefoot. He dispatches two incompetent ”collectors" to secure the services of Henry Gordon Jago & George Litefoot with instructions not to take no as an answer.
The funeral mentioned above would be that of King Edward VII. So set a short period after the original pairing's time. With the new monarch coming to the throne, aptly named George.
The original Jago & Litefoot would be acknowledged in the scripts, but no definitive ending given to that pairing.
Ellie would still be around of course and Quick would be retired and not so quick, but could still be an asset to our new investigators, especially if a current case related to a past adventure.
Georgina would be a confirmed spinster (perhaps due to her mother's past) so although Harry might not be able to contain his charm towards her there is absolutely no chance of any romantic partnership.
JAGO: Come along George LITEFOOT: Please do not call me that. My name is Georgina. JAGO: You can call me Harry LITEFOOT: But you like that name JAGO: Exactly. I like the name. Now come along George.

I'm not keen. It feels like clutching at straws. The magic of this series was Benjamin and Baxter. Any other series shouldn't attempt to riff off their characters names.

I think this idea could work, but only in ten or twenty years time. It's too soon now and feels like desperation. After enough time has passed, it would feel more like a homage to two great characters.

I know it is a divisive suggestion, but I really hope that Jago & Litefoot can live on in audio.
It was lovely to hear the good Professor name checked in the recent Classic Doctors:New Monsters set. We know he has written about his adventures, so if someone takes on his work they will be able to refer back to the great man - reading out some of his thoughts and inspiration like the Doctor did in that story.
The benefit of doing it sooner rather than later would be if, along with Litefoot's books, the pair found a collection of phonographic recordings made by Jago. Like in the Worlds of Doctor Who they could leave messages in the past for future use. I am sure that Jago quite liked the sound of his own voice, so he could have made some more. Litefoot on the other hand would not have enjoyed hearing himself so let Jago get on with narrating their cases solo!?

The Worlds of Doctor Who set included J&L as a chapter, with their pioneering work referenced in the later episodes, particularly Countermeasures. Perhaps a name check again in The New Countermeasures? Or an investigation into what happened to them? If it is set in the 1970s there is no need to ever recast the roles.

The magic of the series was Trevor and Chris as the characters. We got what we got and it is always there for us to return to and enjoy. Things end.

When a friend- who doesn't know much about the series-suggested that perhaps another actor could play Litefoot, I stressed- rather quickly to my own surprise- how inconceivable it would be for anyone else to play the role next to Christopher.
The only exception- and shouldn't be a regular thing if he's used at all- would be Blake Riston as Young George, because he was already established in the series.
I'd love something like an anthology of prose stories, if only because I'd hear Christopher and Trevor's voices in my head as i read them. (I'd also give my left arm to illustrate them, but that's just me.)
If you want something similar audio-wise, I'd recommend regular writers Simon Barnard and Paul Morris's own creations: The Scarifyers. Ironically it was through them I discovered Jago and Litefoot in the first place.
We have George's then unnamed book from series 5 helping the sixth doctor in The Carrionite Curse. Thats awesome, and unexpected nods like that are enough for me for now.

As you say unless it was Blake Ritson playing a young George. The notion of this thread was would it be possible to continue their legacy with another series. I was thinking about what TV did with Star Trek and wondered if something could be done along those lines with a new "crew" in a new "era", but acknowledging what had come before.

The Doctor Who universe as embodied by BF is already large and full of possible areas for more exploration.
I wouldn't be against some kind of continuation of Jago and Litefoot but I'd prefer that any "new Jago and Litefoot" be something that happens, if it happens at all, several years from now, I'm not a sentimental type of person, I have no moral issue with the replacing of Trevor Baxtor or the series, my objections come from being very used to Trevors voice and from thinking that if BF need a new series, there really is a lot of unexplored potential to go at elsewhere.
I'd love to here the series properly finished somehow, perhaps with a Companion Chronicle style series and I'd also love BF to continue working with Christopher Benjamin for as long as he wants to and BF have stories to tell.

Jago & Litefoot : The Next Generation It's been done. In fact, it was done *first*. Some years ago, DWM did an article suggesting DW spinoffs that might have been - * there was a UNIT spinoff concentrating on what life is like in an elite military unit * there was a sitcom for Mel and Glitz set in an intergalactic supermarket * there was a saturday-morning kids' tv thing for K9 and Cheggers * there was "Jago and Litefoot", which would have concentrated on Litefoot's bashful son Edison and Jago's spirited daughter; a romance that ends abruptly when Miss Jago sails away on a liner to another country and the show doesn't get picked up for another series. I suspect DWM's "Jago and Litefoot" could not fit the BF continuity, though; though perhaps children could became nephews and nieces, or bring it forward twenty years and make it the generation-after-the-next instead?
